Shock absorbers leaking?

Nissan dealer states my rear shock absorbers are 'leaking' and required replacement

Same Nissan dealer did an MOT 6 months earlier - no issues relating to the shocks

Couldn't see any leak on the video they forwarded to me of the issue and 'surprised' both shocks failed spectacularly at the same time

Anything I can check without jacking the thing up?

Age/mileage of the car?

And without getting underneath there, you can’t really tell. Tbf to the dealer, it’s not normally something that is blagged as a leak is an obvious thing, and if it’s a tiny one you might not even notice any day to day loss of damping at the rear.

At around 100k, I’d be looking at changing the dampers on any car anyway, so it’s about time regardless. The screencap is hard to tell anything either way, could be leaking at the top though from that. Could also just be dirt

Cheers, yep, lower part looks caked in dirt and looks 'moist' - will post pictures - all this occurred both sides since the MOT in Feb 22?

Nissan supplied part number N56210CD325 as a replacement part - can't find anything about it anywhere - anybody know what this part number includes? - springs?

I wouldn't opt for buying a replacement from Nissan as it'll more than likely costs you over £250 for the pair. I would buy aftermarket, kyb are an excellent item. Rear suspension is a divorced setup, no need to touch the springs.

Aged dampers can fail at any time.

Items aren't sided

Cheers, yep, KYB kept coming up in searches

Nissan wanted 266 for the parts and 237 for labour

Bought all four KYB corners from Amazon US import

I can check book time tomorrow, at a guest 1hr for the rears and 2hrs for the fronts as more involved. She'll be feeling great after swapping out the tired dampers, trust me.

I would say you need to utilise the old ones

Yep, agree, KYB are supposed to be OEM straight swap shocks so ordered a couple of new OEM bolts just to be on the safe side

55269-4U00A Nissan part code for reference if anybody gets the same issue

Anybody with experience of removing the lower bolts holding the rear shocks in place?

Most YT videos show the bolt having to be cut off or it shears

Looking at buying a couple of bolts prior to fitment, otherwise going to be left without the car until fixed

Part number is 56280-AQ00A

My experience from last few months: nightmare. Bolt so rusted in it snapped the weld on the captive nut on the shock body and then was rusted into the bush itself which needed to be cut out (bolt and bush).

Had a new whiteline bush to press in and three shops failed to press. Ended up getting a second hand knuckle and top support arm from zmanalex for less than the price of a whiteline bush!

First quote 2 hours for £200 to fit rears only
