Your asking for advice but you wanted a porsch all along.

Glwys

Didn't know i definitely wanted a Porsche. I was thinking about a 370z before and then a 911, but realised it was too expensive. Looked at some of the other suggestions like R8, Lotus and Vantage. But so far the Cayman wins, unless someone can recommend something else.

I found my 997 to cost exactly the same as my 350Z, in terms of pure basic running costs (servicing, brakes, tyres, fuel etc). I can’t see a 981 being significantly more, however I wouldn’t run a PDK without the OPC warranty. Incredibly reliable gearbox, but if it goes pop…

The engines are far more reliable and I wouldn’t give that a second thought from that side.

Caymans do end up with oval pistons so be very careful.

There's a nice nismo 20 plate  2k miles for 32k on ebay

On the MA1 lump? I’ve not seen any examples of that, got any links?

Needs to be ULEZ compliant. If the expansion happens, the new edge of it will be a 3mins drive from my house. I live just outside the London area so would have to pay £12.50 each day to go into it.

Ahh ok did not realise that.

981 and 718's dont (in fact late 987's dont either) and the reason they get recommended so much is they are awesome.

Anyway, as it happens I bought an ULEZ exempt new car for about £40K not that long ago ........ might be a bit tricky to find one but if you buy a Nismo 370 over this you need your head examined

May be an image of car and road

May be an image of car, road and text that says "UH Z28 00"

What are running costs like on a Porsche? Always been a dream to get one.

Depends My brothers 2015 911 Carrera had a £1000 service before he wrote it off. Customer service craps on other brands. Full video of work done and what needs doing. Tyres were 21 at the back and 20 in the front. I think they would be similar to Z bar the odd service and tires. End of the day what should service be on a £80,000 car.

Each to their own but thats got a 7.0 V8 with 650hp, 10K miles, spool valve suspension, full ceramic brakes - the standard car lapped the Nurburgring in 7.37 in the wet.
I like a 370, dont get me wrong but ...... really?!

How does it handle? For 40k its good value no doubt. I suppose a twin turbo built Nismo would cost around £45k with similar power.

if its 1500-1700kg then thats ok at 7:37 handling may be decent with a skilled driver

Nice Camaro but what's it like round going round corners and I bet the mpg is horrendous.

..Do ppl check mpg when going above a V6?! Just put a 100 pounds for the weekend. Youll live 😂

3.4 Cayman is a good shout once the Common issues are sorted. Theyve all gone up. What about the 2.7.

Cayman 981s it is I think. Now to find one with the 3.4 engine, pdk, sports exhaust, sports chrono package and in sapphire blue.

I spent ages trying to find the first three of those, then gave up and went to GTS - make it 45 and you can have mine!

In all seriousness, I had a major service recently and also added plugs and new PDK fluid, it was £1100 at a specialist. That’s every 2 years/20k miles, so i was quite pleased. I’ve also done oil and brake fluid in between the suggested intervals.

40+ mpg on a relaxed motorway run, less under normal circumstances but still 20+

Unfortunately I can't go that high. I've got 40k plus my car and that needs to include insurance and tax. I can chuck in a little more but that's it. Can't stretch above £42k all in.

Just be patient and stay glued to AT and PH, one will crop up. I personally wouldn't get too precious about Chrono. I seldom use it on the PDK, Sport is plenty fast through the gears and the throttle map and shift points are fine, unless you really want to go for it. When I am in that kind of mood, I want the paddles. A working PSE is a must though, watch for seized valves on the exhaust, I had to replace mine (£1200) as they were totally stuck and I was missing out on the noise - can't think of many better sounding OEM cars when you're giving it the beans.

I don't know if the Alcantara headliner is optional on the S but it's a really nice touch.
