Mk2 Spoiler onto GT 370Z

Anyone done this. I know it comes from a place where 15 holes were drilled in the boot. Is it possible to use current holes from GT and maybe some adhesive then get rid of the protruding clips that are on the ducktail.

In US im seeing people just get a Nismo hatch or drill the boot and is a pain to line up. So ppl tend to avoid these and get a like for like ducktail instead...

I can see where the two screws go the screws and some 3M tape adhesive should do.l right? They seem similar to where the GT spoiler screws would be

Thats my old car! But not a pic that i took 🤔 And the roof has been wrapped now. Where did you find that picture? Would be interested to know how its doing…

So the story behind it was i originally had a MK1 Nismo spoiler on that car, then bought a MK2 Nismo, but much preferred the MK1 spoiler. As there are additional holes etc. I decided it would be easier to just swap the whole bootlids over. So thats what i did…

Thats what a DRL lights seller said they do in US. Could get a trunk lot of headache though. Surely I just need 2 screws and 3M and shave the other clips off or remove them. I might not bother with this.

Im seeing not many people want the mk2 spoiler due to fitment issues

Yeh i believe when i looked into it years ago the MK2 has one extra clip right at each end (which you could just remove/shave off), and then the 4 clips along the bottom, which you could just remove/shave and use 3M tape instead. Cant see there being any issues at all really.

Its odd there would be fitment issues due to it being the same boot lid and the same main bolt and clip locations.

lol why you getting rid...More people want the mk1 spoiler 👀

I'm one of the rare people that prefer the subtle look of the mk2 nismo spoiler, think I'm just getting old 😊

Id have to sleep on it as theres a claim its worth £1126 but not in demand?! lol. How much would you sell yours for though. Theres a few imitations around including carbon for £400-£600 👀

As mine is a genuine nismo made by Autech for Nissan it's arguably worth more than the mk2 nismo spoiler, however it's worth is as much as people are willing to pay. Just the upper blade is listed on z1 motorsports website for $1100. I'm not even sure you can buy a complete mk1 spoiler anymore unless you buy a replica .

It was just a thought regarding swapping, I'll probably regret it if I did 😁

Sorry to revive this old thread, but this could be invaluable in my next mod.

The V2 spoiler is coming off and being replaced (eventually) I need to get the spoiler off with no damage to it or the clips etc. as once its off im test fitting its replacement to refine it if needed before going to paint etc. Then the V2 will go back on temporary till its ready.

So in short, any tips for getting the V2 spoiler off with no damage ?

Thinking:

Fishing line

Cardboard

Masking tape

Assorted trim clip tools.

Do I start on top or at the back when de-clipping ? etc etc

All tips appreciated

Must be tricky to get to the screws underneath the hatch after removing the plastic trim. I'm wonder if the clips click in. There looks to be a lot of them on v2 spoiler.

Once the screws are off is it a case of using fishing line to undo the glue or tape to separate the spoiler from the body. Then hoping the clips dont keep it stuck.

Yeah looking at the clips on the pics above, im thinking release the ones at the back with a trim tool then sort of lift and slide towards the front of the car and try and slide them out. then remove the pegs with the tool.

Just gonna have to mask the paintwork up and go for it I guess, won't know till I try kinda thing. At least seeing the pics, I know its possible to get it off without damage

This is what you'll encounter under the MK2 spoiler on the later model Nismos. All but 4 need smoothing, preparation and painting before the new spoiler is ready to go. I've been really struggling to find a bodyshop prepared to take this on

Lazy country man. Insurance jobs pay 4-5 times more. When I crashed the 350 rear quarter panel. My bodyshop charged me £400 to straighten and respray it. If i went through insurance he would charge them £2000. At which point they wanted to write the car off. Made no difference cars off road now anyway.

I asked a bodyshop about a respray for my brothers Supra to black. They said they wouldn't take it on as they could be taking on 6-7 insurance jobs that week each paying a good amount. Sad times.

New spoiler covers them all :)

Was going to use some of them as squish through bond holes, the rest will have extra double sided tape applied over them to prevent water ingress.

In your scenario, id be buying a new tailgate from a non Nismo and get it painted etc to match. Be cheaper than any quote to fill, smooth and paint to remove the extra holes
