Do you have to top the car up a lot? This would be the easiest way to tell if you are burning oil in my opinion What colour is the smoke on hard acceleration and start up? Start up revving, and noticed hard accel on a cold day (engine warm) Possibly happens on a warm day too, but cant see. Not had a chance to test the miles per litre. I service it every 3k. ZMANALEX Posted October 8, 2021 Share Posted October 8, 2021 You will have to carry out an accurate oil consumption test and report back if you want an informed opinion. What colour is the "smoke" Brand, and a change in oil viscosity might help as would installing a catch can. If you are getting excessive blue smoke on cold start up then that would suggest worn valve stem oil seals or worm valve guides. Excessive blue smoke on hard acceleration would suggest worn pistons, rings, or bores. Once you report back with the oil consumption numbers, further recommendations will follow. Are you running OEM cats, sport cats, or decats? Also with the ambient temperature being a bit cooler, you can expect extra exhaust emissions. Azurez33 Posted October 10, 2021 Share Posted October 10, 2021 To also build on Alex’s great info, revups do seem to burn a bit more oil than the rest but at the same time some of them don’t, with these performance cars if you do give it a hiding it will burn oil regardless anyway Do as Alex says figure out how much oil you’re burning to start with and when it burns it. When you start an engine up everything is obviously cold and it’s original size and once it heats up metal expands etc there’s always allowances for the heat expansion but to start with if somethings worn it will usually burn a lot more on the cold starts.
