ATTAK Z
As some of you may know, I've recently added a Merc CL to the fleet, and I'm doing a few minor mods to get it looking how I want it. The car is black and I want to colour code the grille but unsure whether to wrap it or paint it; I'd prefer to wrap it so it can be put back to OEM, but is that possible ? I want to keep the chrome highlights on the circumference of the roundel and the leading edge of the slats.
coldel
@zippypooz As it happens I had a Vauxhall Astra many years ago with a chrome grille and had that wrapped it worked well 👍 although the front is prone to stone chips which can puncture the wrap and the chrome shines through! 1
HEADPHONES
PM zippypooz. He's sorted many a member out with their wrapping needs. Edited September 26, 2021 by HEADPHONES
ilogikal1
You may have already considered it, but Plastidip could be a viable non-permanant alternative. I'm surprised no one else has mentioned it yet, but Zippypooz is your man for all things wrapped.
ATTAK Z
Ah yes, I think Plastidip might work ... thanks @ilogikal1 And I think they do a gloss finish now - Piano Black Hyperdip afaik
ilogikal1
Yes, they do a glossifier top coat as well as single-stage gloss black these days.
ATTAK Z
Just ordered glossy black ... wish me luck Many thanks
zippypooz
Try the plasti-dip option first and see how you get on, if that doesn't work let me know! Use a sprayers lining tape (usually blue and about 6mm thick) to get your shapes and edges sharp and ten mask over that to protect the rest of the car. Thanks for the heads up chaps!
coldel
Plastidip will work but as above it’s less durable I found and will suffer with the stone chips
