Once the VX220 is gone...

....what do I go for next? I have to say I am running out of ideas! Had a few nibbles on the VX I am hoping it will be sold before end of Sept with any luck. I am going to aim to spend what I get for the VX so around a max of £17k

Some considerations, the next car doesn't need to meet all criteria but as many as possible:

  • Some rarity about it, I don't want to be one of another one thousand owners of Porsche Boxsters in the area
  • Ideally, 4 seats, rear ones to fit a 9 year old lad in so don't need to be adult sized
  • Decent performance levels power to weight ratio wise, clearly it wont be as quick as the VX but I still like something a bit fast
  • Not bothered if it is 4wd, rwd or fwd any are fine
  • Again not bothered about engine size as long as it has decent performance
  • Ideally something that has taken its depreciation hit, I don't want something worth half the value in 2 years time

After my VXR I went for something that was the polar opposite, so  I wouldn’t spend all my time comparing it and wishing I hadn’t swapped. That car was the 350Z, so it was FR not MR, NA not turbo, heavy not light etc. Not sure if that helps you or not, I’ll try and think of some options :)

5.4 V8? Probably still 23 mpg i wont be suprised the older v6, v8 mercs are actually suprisedly economical. Good shout definitely not common.

I have done a total of about 4000 miles per year in the VX so I am not that worried about mpg so much. Could possibly squeeze in a half decent E46 M3 :D

Merc CL500 ticks all the boxes ... you'll even get change from your £17K for a couple of years worth of petrol ... and with the recent rise in car prices, it'll maybe even appreciate.   (well perhaps not but you never know in these strange times)

As good as they might be, I couldn’t buy one for the money people are asking. Not for FWD.

I mean, we’re hitting the down curve of petrol cars and there’s better ways to enjoy the end of an era than in something so relatively straightforward IMHO.

I get what you are saying Dan but I think there is a good 10 years left at least in terms of enjoying petrol cars. My next purchase will not be the last hurrah.

Having owned an FR, then an MR, then another FR, an AWD then my current MR I feel like I have given lots of things a fair go.

Im liking the DC5 option never had a vtec yo but also rather bizarrely find myself getting drawn to something rather left field, an RCZ-R !

Good thing about going to the DC5 from the VXT, is that the hard ride will actually be something of a comfort upgrade for you.

Totally agree with Dan on the silly money Tegs are, but I'd be looking for a slightly rough one and cleaning her up and hoping someone will pay 20 grand for it in future.
