z350convert
I thought this might be of interest… when I got the car a couple years ago (2010 370z) the brakes were a bit juddery over 50mph, worse as speed increased. The car had new discs and pads fitted by previous owner. I did balancing, tracking and changed tyres. I then took car to local PTA garage to have new discs and pads. The problem persisted and was really getting on my tits. I went back to PTA and asked for a report - they couldn’t find anything wrong. I contacted Abbey Motorsport in Oxted, Surrey. They agreed to test the car, check disc run out, ovality etc. Abbey found a bad run out on one of the front discs and recommended new discs and pads as best course of action. They also said that the flanges the discs were fitted to were corroded and hadn’t been cleaned up properly. I went for that, so they cleaned the flanges. did the brakes and bedded them in properly. Car now perfect. I suppose the problem all along has been the bad disc seating on the flanges, not picked up by previous garages. It’s evidently a very significant part of doing the brakes on Zs. Have complained too PTA who were very good, giving me a full refund on the whole bill.
Jack94
Glad your issue is now sorted It's not just zed related though, hubs should always be properly cleaned up before fitting new discs, or else you're asking for brake judder. The fact that garages like PTA can't even replace brakes correctly or diagnose something simple like runout are the reason I always take my zed to a reputable specialist Good of them to give you a refund though! z350convert
Yes, lesson learned. I usually do my own work on the car but at 74 my powers are weak! In future I will get Abbey to do the things I don’t want to wrestle with anymore.
