Hey All,

I have been putting serious thought into upgrading my current car to a 350z, i think it looks amazing and im sure it sounds good as well :teeth:

Just got a couple of questions if i may as the best people to ask are the people who use the cars in the real world.

I commute daily to work and home its a 44 odd mile round trip, its a funny drive as well in the morning i can get there in 50 odd minutes and the evening takes nearly 2hrs or more sometimes

Its a mixture of stuff really very few traffic jams in the morning and a lot of duel carrigeways, obviously traffic comes into play on the way home

My current car is a mr2 roadster and it costs about £40 a week in fuel it has a tiny tank. I know its gonna cost more in the zed but i think i can accept that due to comfort and space. Does anyone else do a similar commute how much does it cost you?

Im not going to go on about mpg i just want to account for it so i dont get a shock first time :scare:

Servicing - is it reccomended to go to a dealership or can you use your normal garage to do the job?

Is it best to buy from a dealership as well do you get the 1year warranty and can you extend that afterwards.

Sorry to ask these questions but i tried the dealer and all he wanted to do was sell me the car instead of talk to me like a human

On a funny note for everyone i got an insurance quote for the zed and it came in at 850 which i thought was great, so i tried the same company (different to my current one) for a quote on my mr2 and 2200

:lol::lol:

since when is a 1.8 considered more exspensive than a 3.5 v6

Ah Well

Cheers

Hi bud,

I regularily drive 300 miles plus so no issues with comfort. As this drive is to London I often crawl in heavy traffic, no problems here which are car specific.

Regular motorway driving should be 30+ mpg. In heavy traffic you will be in second and third a lot so probably about 20+ if you take it easy.

Servicing in warranty at Nissan for convenience. Cost very much depends on where you are in the country. Dealer service can be very hit and miss, some are ok some are awful. Do not rely on anything a dealer tells you, they come out with some crackers.

Would seriously suggest using an independant for servicing. We have some good guys on here but again depends on where you are.

Buying from a dealer may be good in terms of warranty but I would be equally interested in the cars history. Buying from a forum member would suggest that the car has been very well looked after and in many cases better than when bought.

The insurance lottery has always been beyond me but the £850 sound pretty good. :D

Its very difficult to say whether my commute was similar but it was around the same miles and a mix of motorway and surburban crawl between traffic lights. MPG was consistently between 23 and 24, worse in the winter from cold starts.

Where to buy from depends on your budget and therefore the age of cars you're looking at. Buying privately from here is likely to land you a well looked after example that you can trace the history of. Alternatively, bigphil, one of our traders may be able to help you find a good example - what he doesn't know about Zeds isn't worth knowing and his reputation is impecable.

Personally, I'd probably keep to Nissan stealers during the warranty period (its not strictly necessary but Nissan aftercare is pants and warranty work will be much easier to sort if you have a Nissan service history) but after that I would avoid them like the plague and would go to local performance car specialist. Wouldn't let the local greas-monkey near it though....

HTH :)

The Zed is a great comfortable car on the commute (I don't use mine anymore for that but that's to keep the milage down etc)

Things to think about, the clutch is heavier than a 'normal' car which could be a problem in stop start traffic but I doubt it unless you have trouble holding your weight walking!

MPG and running costs are much less than I budgeted for when I bought it, although with the increase in pertol prices it is getting dearer. Worth every penny though! The service interval is 9k which is reasonable. It has an 80 litre tank so it'll go for a while - hurts when you fill it though!

Very easy to live with, you can take it on weekends away etc with no probs. Honestly, the only unpractical thing about it is the fact it has 2 seats but that has never bothered me!

Coming form an MR2 it will be very practical - its even got a boot!

Hi,

I drive approx 20,000 miles per annum and I find the Zed very comfortable to sit in for a long time (much better than the RX-8 I had before it).

MPG is not good but then you've already said you don't expect it to be. I'm currently averaging 27.1mpg according to the onboard computer but thats with a lot of non-rushhour motorway driving. On a Sunday drive out, giving it plenty of beans I get figures in the teens. I'm on first name terms with my local Shell garage, put it that way!

If your car is in warranty, definitely go to the Dealers for your servicing. I disagree with Digsy above about servicing after the warranty period has expired. While it might be true that aftermarket servicing is better for the car, when you come to sell it, it will be more attractive with a full Nissan service history IMO. Remember lots of buyers don't get the good advice from fora such as this one until after they've bought.

Overall though, get one bought, they're fantastic and you'll love it

Thats great guys thats the sort of advice im after,

I dont mind 2 seats as i only have me mate or the other half in the car with me, i remember having 4 seats before they were used for storage wasnt pretty ruined the leather

And yep it has a boot a major factor i have a hobby that i do on sundays, race cars and trying to cart my stuff to and from the track in the mr2 is amusing to say the least

80Ltr Tank!!!! thats like a £92 fill up :lol: that will be amusing when i let me mum drive it and say fill it up for me :yahoo: i suppose if it gets very pricey i can always get the train to work a few days a week wont kill me plus i can have a kip :teeth:

OOOO this has made the urge that much more potent!!!

Welcome, welcome, welcome.

I think your decision is made, the Zed it is, now decide your budget and get hunting, you will love it and continue to. Plenty practical enough for a 2 seater, the fact you are considering it means you're already not worried about the fuel / tax stuff (anyway completely worth it).

Enjoy the hunt and :welcome:

yep the zed is looking promising right now i have to admit,

Im not in a massive rush so i can afford to be choosy about the model i get, also gives me time to save up more so i can loan less.

as for the petrol and tax it is a concern ill be honest, but im fed up with being assaulted by the robbing labour party and because of that i decided if im going to pay through the nose i might as well have something ill enjoy

tbh i think my first port of call will be downing street and a burnout down it

then ken's house and just rev it all day screaming c02 c02 c02

then refill it and go home

Now there's a thought - perhaps if there was a major turn out of sports cars around the H of P and City Hall it might make some of the MP's and similar cronies think twice seeing the potential vote loss facing them if they follow the likes of anti-car Ken and his greenies who expect us all to be using bikes or cramming into buses and tubes - word of advice never, never try to commute into London on public transport if you want to keep your sanity.

Off my soap-box and back to the thread - welcome B McG and hope to see you along with a ZED - you will not be disappointed.

Hi there. I do a 50 mile round trip per day in a mixture of traffic which takes about 45mins each way. Costs be approx £45 - £50 a week (not including weekend driving). Insurance quotes are wildly varying so make sure you get plenty of quotes. as for servicing, I think most people on here would steer clear of Nissan once warranty was out.
