GranTurismoEra
It seems to be more evident when its hot and causes a vibration in the steering wheel. Car doesnt tramline or wiggle at the back. Has started happening since May. Is it possible to change the discs and keep the same pads? Any tips for avoiding this in future. I never leave my foot on the brake when stopped. I only really use handbrakes when stopped. I dont drive hard or brake harshly. On my honda i never have such issues. Ive also had warped discs within 2 months of changing them on the 350Z 370Z Nismo is the car. Lack of cooling on the brakes or discs? Azurez33
Always change the discs and pads at the same time no matter what anyone says, it’s always possible that when replacing discs and pads that the hub hasn’t been cleaned for whatever reason small bit of skuzz can cause a work of pain, the flange it’s self might not even be straight for an odd reason worth getting a run out gauge and finding out, most brakes on cars such as Zs will be vented so the manufacturer will have tested the cooling Efficiency otherwise they’d not be staying in business for long , bearing could allowing excess movement too etc, another thing to note is that maybe the brake pads are now glazed due to the amount of heat so brake fade is also a current issue you could be facing etc
Eddie_r32
Try re bedding them in, more often it's pad deposits rather than warping
ZMANALEX
It will be DTV which is usually caused by fitment error.
GranTurismoEra
Fitment error? According to these numbers on the diagram1,3,2,4? Or torque settings? Whats number 8? is that to see if the flange is not straight? Flange could be it or bearings. If its the bearing that has play would there be other side effects like tramlining or pulling to one side? Ebized
When I had vibrations on my 370 it was sorted out by Marcus @ Disc Skimmers: http://discskimmers.com/contact/ My issue turned out to be using 3mm slip spacers (with 20mm spacers) that had warped - alloy too soft. Well worth the drive up from Surrey for me - as local Nissan dealer had no idea. I know a number of owners on here have used his services and the feedback on his work was like mine - Excellent!
Azurez33
8 is a dti to test for run out which you’ll then need to specs for maximum allowance but you obviously want as little as possible, just test the bearing whilst jacked up it’s less likely the flange than the bearing, bearing will cause excess vibration and noise and potentially abs/tc light depending how bad if it is a bearing
msitpro
I recently had massive steering wheel vibration while braking on a track day which turned out to be a bad front driver's side wheel bearing.
andy james
Had similar problem on two sets of rotors. Contamination on the hub is the likely cause or even new discs that aren’t true. Went down the skimming route last year and they have been fine.

As I dont fancy paying another £1000. Im hearing a flange could be £500 on one side anyway

Probably 65,000 miles in my case! I guess they would wear more if they are exposed to high heats on track, extreme forces on track, etc. or even just hard road driving. Pretty sure lower offset wheels, or much heavier wheels would also take their toll.
GranTurismoEra
I emailed the specialist Andy recommended he sent an email just waiting to set a date to drive up to Cambridge. Hes even done some work with dealers apparently. So we shall see!

GranTurismoEra
All fixed, time will tell. Sanded contact points on wheel/discs and disc checked for evenness with machinery. It was uneven wear and dtv. Did all 5 wheels and discs. Took 2 hrs. Nice guy and lots of stories from his world of motorsport while you wait Will take time to bed in so will see how we go. Thanks Andy! Edited August 24, 2020 by GranTurismoEra
