Carbon clear coat repairs

Another little job being tackled in the Zed. A job I had been putting off for months as I've never dealt with carbon repairs. Had a fair amount of clear coat peeling on my driver's side door mirror covers. Caps are 4 yrs old so these things are to be expected I guess.

Process as follows  *pic heavy!!

Process was warm up the mirror to help release the adhesive.

Clean and degrease the mirror cap

Wet sand the flaking clear coat, 400 then 800.

Time to clear coat, found some e-tech wheel lacquer which should be up to the job.

IPA wipe over and now to see if we can bring this kid back. Wasn't sure if I was attempting to blend a traditional clear coat or a gel coat, but here goes.

Chose to then do the final finish on the car as the rig kept moving about. Overall very happy with the outcome for a few hours work and using materials already to hand.

Cheers pal, bit of anxiety floating about as experience helps when stuff goes wrong but myself would be reliant on lady lucky to help me through. So much patience is need for bodywork and prep prep prep.

Another go over once on the car and not moving about plus il hit the passenger side with the machine polisher, IPA then coat with gtechniq C4.

Fitted the carbon mirror cap however the forecast said rain that night, so opted to cover the unit. Couple mornings later took the bag and masking tape off, hit with quick detailer and she's whole again.

You can see the difference the mild wet sand did to the clarity. Green being wet sanded and blue not, blue resembles the early F40 paintwork look and green being the later F40

I better stop looking or it'll all be getting done......
