Not many people on here have modded their power, apparently the Nissan ECU overrides any performance gains any mods make. Which means you need to mod it then change the ECU and get it mapped specifically for your mods.

I'm sure some of the others will be able to give you more details.

£6000 to get a PE TT kit fitted with minimum 380bhp and M3 owners will regret spending so much money on their car :teeth:

Adam of Z1 Auto has recently posted about modifying his car without F/I. His car went more than 300whp so maybe iro 340bhp, but it sounds like a lot of hard work and £££. Any ECU mod is probably realistically looking towards £1500 - £2000 including dyno times iirc and then all the mods like exhaust, plenum, intake etc could also add a fair bit on that. Let us know if you do decide to try it out though cos i'd like to see how much these N/A mods could inmprove performance with an ECU mod attached

Or you could just accept that you have a totally different car and not try and get in a pissing contest. If you really want an M3 that badly then flog the Zed and buy one.

Either way, an M3 with 340bhp is still going to be quicker than a Zed with 310bhp. Don't worry about it, and simply enjoy the fact that you own a car that you like, and be damned what anyone else thinks.

Yep, agree with tmJac...Plenum, CAI, HiFlows, Headers, y-pipe, zorst and then a piggyback ECU of some direction should have you almost there. People have done it in the UK and it is proven...

If you got an import then you may get lucky on if the ECU changes things...

Even if you go the Cosworth route you would still need to piggyback it!

Which ever way you go make sure you dyno on the way to make sure your going in the right direction....

Brakes and suspension, worth doing too, cant belive your that far behind an 02 M3.... They may have a few more BHP but then there not exactly lightweight..

Weight loss + suspension should be a great place to start. But then weight loss does come at a (significant) price in terms of cost, comfort etc.

TBH, if you want to beat him, best money to be spent is not in the power upgrade department, but in the driver training department. Unless you are a truly gifted driver this will help you no end.

And remember, any monkey can drive quickly in a straight line, its the curves where skill (and the Z) comes in.

+2 - pay to learn to be a better driver. I have a mate who does a few rallies here and there and used to race karts and he can spank most people in a race in the most underpowered and crappy looking cars just because he knows how to use them to their best advantage and knows their limits.

If you must mod the car then plenum spacer gives proven torque but not much and suspension and brakes are probably the best place to start after that. Everything else is for noise unless you replace the ECU

Having had both an E46 M3 and a Z, I have to say the Z is the better car for a driver, the M3 is great in straight lines and has a brilliant engine, but has alot of body roll, rubbish breaks and as I had an SMG gearbox, it lacked spirit. Also its a thing of the past now
