Rob350
I've got a recaro sr3 in red fabric probably out of an old honda. I'd like it to be black... I've seen dupli colour fabric spray but reviews say it makes the material a bit hard and crispy. I've also seen black dye that you spray on with water onto the seat and sponge into the fabric then properly clean after a few days to rid any excess dye. Does anybody have any ideas or solutions on how to make my red seat black?? Without re upholstering, I want it to be a cheapish project to do myself. I think re upholstering it would cost around £200 if not more Cheers
skate2create
Spray die Something like above could work, however a change from red to black is pretty dramaticn so would probably take a fair bit to cover. If you look at the reviews, people have done lighter coloured fabric (eg grey) seats to black.

I saw that stuff, apparently very good but it takes a lot to change colour like there's not much colour dye in the spray. I saw a few vids and it took nearly 3 cans to change a grey pillow to black. I'm looking more at autobrite or autoglym black dye in a spray bottle. Read that a few people have used it on headliners etc and is pretty good. Like you say though red to black Is going to be tricky. But even if it goes dark grey it will be better than bright red
ilogikal1
Is the seat cover removable at all? If so, surely any good fabric dye will do the job, doesn't have to be anything specialist - you're always going to pay a premium from any of the detailing manufacturers and I can't see it being any different to dying any other fabric, tbh. Rob350
You can take the fabric off, but you have to take the seat to bits. I've been speaking to my mother in law tonight and she's good with a needle and thread, I think we're going to try and just basically wrap some black material over the top and staple and stitch it to the red material, the center cushons come out easy enough so that will hide any staples etc. Then in the future if I decide to sell the seat on I can remove the top layer of black fabric and have the original still intact and unworn underneath
