MrLizard
Hi everyone, I am in the process of getting into sprints etc... done a few autotests before but nothing requiring the MSA national b license, Anyway, planning on getting a 205, wanted something in the beginner class, and the stats arnt bad, engine below or equal to 1.6 and weight minimum is 800kg, gti is 804kg and obviously 1.6ltr. Has anyone had experience in sprints and/or 205's, is there an alternative i should look at? The reason for such a car is I can afford to loose the cash and take the 'hit' as it were, im sure a TT Rx-7 would be better (and not french) but i might not enjoy it so dont want to chuck loads of money at it 'yet' Any advice would be welcome, Thanks in Advance Mr Lizard
Stew
106 rallye???? Probably best with either 205, 106 or saxo vtr/vts as the french handling is generally very good. The cars fall to bits but usually on the inside! If it's stripped out it won't! Fiesta Mk2 XR2 or Nova GTE are both 1.6 and a bit more old skool. MrLizard
Thats an interesting point, the rules stipulate that the car must have the original number of seats and the original dash in tact, you can strip the gumph behind the dash, clock, radio, some useless wiring for interior lights etc, including carpet headlining etc... but nothing else However if i strip more than 4kg worth im stuffed because although i weigh a fair few kg's its the unladen weight of the car that counts. and needs to be more than 800kg's Ill have a look at what you suggested though, 205 isnt 'that' tunable without serious work, though i thought nova's handled like a lampost ? mbs
Used to do Sprints & Hill climbs but that was in the old days in a mini cooper S so my advice is worthless, but if you have as much fun as I did, enjoy.
Chris`I
Would a Clio be feasible? I had a couple and the handling was better than the Pugs I drove. Not sure if its a bit lardy or something for you.
Stew
Was there a decent version of clio around 1.6? the 16V was an 1800 wasn't it? 205 GTI is a very good choice. I would suggest charade GTTI. It's a 1.0 but VERY tuneable as it's turboed. Not sure on weight though or if you'd be left behind! What about something old school RWD like a mk2 escort? A 4 door is reasonable money and would be Sooooooo much fun! Saxo VTS is 16V and pretty tunable.
MrLizard
16v would be nice, the pug only being 8, saxo vts is an interesting thought actually, i might have a look on ebay, whatever i do get an tune ill leave a running commentary on here however well or badly it goes. escort crossed my mind but RWD again takes me out of the lower class n puts me against supras etc so i might as well use the zed (which i cant afford to loose)
MrLizard
There was a 16v 1.6 clio, 110bhp against the VTS's 120bhp, both apparently handle well however ive driven neither (have driven a new vts and a 1.0 clio, but that deosnt really qualify) pugeot 205 has 105bhp but weighs less,
Stew
I remember when I had a Saxo VTR one of my mates bought a VTS, it was so quick at the time compared to the VTR. It was good. I like 205s!
Trev-the-Rev
I currently contest in the the British, South Western and Welsh sprint championships, not however in a 205 though. Pleased to help with any advice if I can

Trev-the-Rev
did you ever sell the race car trev? No I changed my mind and have decided to keep it. I had a couple of offers but they all wanted to P/X something that I didn't fancy. So going to use it again this year and see how I feel at the end of the season. Stew
Cool. It looked like a beast!
Trev-the-Rev
Yeah with over 500 bhp per ton it certainly entertains and frequently frightens.
