rabbitstew
So after 2.5 years and covering 32,000 miles, I finally got around to having the old daily driver tuned. As always I tend to get a bit carried away and so after telling the wife the car was going for an "oil change" I set off on a 3.5 hour drive down to Gatwick Airport where I dropped the car off at one of the top specialists in the UK/world and left it with them. Engine came out and they did their magic.... That was apparently one of their slower runs. End result is 585bhp at the wheels. Which depending upon who you speak too about transmission losses etc. could be roughly 700bhp at the crank. Who really knows, but the daily commute to work is certainly more interesting now! For those that dont know/remember the old daily is a 2008 Porsche 997 turbo manual. So to get this extra power I had some massive do88 intercoolers fitted, all the do88 big bore intake & boost hoses, the do88 bigger pendlum with the bigger GT3 throttle body, do88 bigger bore Y-pipe, BMC air filter, uprated plugs & coil packs, 890 Sachs clutch, Kline 100cell exhaust and a couple of sessions of engine mapping. The tuners could have got a lot more power out of it, but rather than push for the maximum they like to back things off by about 20% to ensure everything is safe. On top of that due to the cars age it needed some bits replaced - new brake discs/pads, new top mounts, new radiator housings, coolant pipes, cross over pipes, diff seals, suspension top mounts, brake pipes, brake fluid change, engine mounts, clutch slave cylinder and clutch master cylinder . Car up until now has cost me hardly anything on bits, so I figured it was about time to give it a thorough overhaul which should make the car last another 100,000 miles!
docwra
I love a mapped Porsche Turbot, the figures they do are insane - 350whp @ 4K is not to be sniffed at. I take it youre not selling it for a while now?
ilogikal1
Not bad at all for an oil change.

I take it youre not selling it for a while now? Its even more amazing when you think its only running 1.2bar of boost at the most. A lot of companies just up the boost to 1.6bar etc. Im not planning on selling it anytime soon, even less so now. I have sort of future proofed it a lot with the mods ive gone for, as all the bits can handle loads more power. If/when the time comes I only have to replace the turbos for bigger ones and have another remap.

davey_83
Amazing machine!! Love all 911's, but the turbo is something else let along a tuned one WOW that must have been a sweet drive back. Any pictures of the new parts prior to the install?
350_Jer
Very nice! Certainly beats my old Vivaro van I use for my daily!
reeceybeaney
That's awesome! Never knew these cars took to tuning so well bet it drives like an animal, I drove my dad's 996 turbo x50 and that felt pretty bonkers... Can only imagine what this beast is like! We are only 30 mins from Gatwick so will have to try convince the old man to take it along

It was certainly an interesting drive home, as it took about 1hr 30mins to get out of london, so I was going down all these back streets 20/30mph for ages, then M25 was mental, then M1 had average speed on the go, so it was ages before I could even floor the car. Heres some pics of the intercoolers & pipework. Barely managed to fit all the boxes in the car! They are about 3 times the size of the stock ones and are widely regarded as the best you can get atm. All the top tuners now use them. 3

The Nissan GTR was on the list and a very close contender but in the end I preferred the styling of the 997. Ive done 300 miles in it already since I collected it last Friday!
