martinmac
Dont know how many of you are into Horse Racing but even if you arent this is still a great day out. http://www.cartmel-steeplechases.co.uk/home.asp Rahter than try to organise another lakes drive out and battle the persistant Lakes traffic if anyone is interested in this then I will be going. The setting is unique. Apart from the beautiful valley the main advantage is that you park in the middle of the course on grass so its up with the gazebos and picnic tables. Even with the vast range of hotels there is a need to book up well in advance hence my posting this early. The racing is on the Saturday and Monday which leaves the Sunday free for a bit of sightseeing. For anyone interested I am happy to help with the accom search but I stress it needs to be done early if you dont want to end up in a tent in my garden
mbs
Martin, Sounds good, whats it's like getting in and out on the grass in the Z, particularly if its raining, IIRC Cartmel course is on the side of a hill.
martinmac
Not a problem unless its really really wet. The course is infrequenty used so the access route is pretty good. You only have to drive about 400yds on the grass and its pretty flat. I normally get on course for about 11 to get a good spec. Will pop over and take some photos when I get back from Donny. http://www.webbaviation.co.uk/lakes/lv2 ... course.htm This is one off the net and we park in the left hand field along the beck ignoring anything the marshals say

martinmac
Saturday was ok, had one very good winner. Took the Golf on which was a good shout as I grounded that out on the way in, its standard Monday, it was very wet, watched it in the local and had no winners at all. The horse I won on Saturday had a heart attack after the race and died Always next year though
