SiriusProjects
Hi All, Haven't had my 370Z Nismo long and it's due a service in September. Been reading some threads on here in relation to servicing and a few mention taking it to a Nismo Specialist. I was going to take it to my usual mechanic who did the servicing on my 350Z GT4 when I had it, but am now wondering if I should be taking it to a specialist as the threads I read mentioned. Can someone advise as I was going to get it booked in soon? Thanks. P.S. If a specialist is required, any recommendations for garages near me would be appreciated. I'm in Somerset. Silverthorn
Dependant on how far you are willing to travel, Nissan in Cribbs Causeway, Bristol may be an option for you. It's one of their HPC's so they deal with a lot of 370's/GTR's etc. A FNSH can be quite valuable on resale, how much value it actually adds though is debatable. If you've already got a good garage you can trust I don't see why you shouldn't take it there.
Payco
Would personally never give my Nismo to a main dealer to service it. Would rather use a good independent garage who know what they are doing. Edited August 16, 2018 by Payco
davey_83
Same for my 350z, rather do it myself. However after the warranty period for a newer car, any goodwill towards manufactures defect repairs full dealer service history would be needed.
Nso93
My 370 goes to litchfield imports in Gloucestershire. They know the gtr and 370 well. Wouldn’t take mine anywhere else.
SiriusProjects
Thanks for the feedback guys. I don't really have any specialists in my area so it would be tricky anyway. My usual mechanic has never let me down and as I said previously, he used to service my 350Z. He also fitted all the mods that I wasn't able to fit myself, so I think I'm in good hands. Plus I've got a fair idea what he will charge and I know I won't get ripped off. LOL.
sipar69
Let's be honest, servicing a Nismo isn't any different to servicing a standard 370. I'm now on my fourth 370, having owned a Nismo and non Nismo variants. I've used main dealers to service all of them with no issues. If a particular dealer has a poor reputation avoid, but if you look at the list of jobs on the service schedule it's not complicated stuff.

Maybe I've just had bad experiences but I'd 100% travel the distance to a reputable independent every time.
davey_83
Having worked at a dealer, you'll have lads that genuinely care about customers cars and will treat as their own and you'll have some thats main concern is bonus and racing thru the work as quickly as possible with a 'that will do attitude' #cutcorners. Which type of person your keys will be handed too is pot luck. I wouldn't let a dealer wash my car, let alone work on it lol Nissan SMR below Edited August 17, 2018 by davey_83

Give it to your tried and tested usual mechanic. I have a Nissan main dealer in my village and wouldn’t let them near my car. I once gave them my car as I needed a ramp to refit a hose.Told the technician where it was and what needed doing (30 mins work) . Charged me for 3 hours work at £110 an hour as they said they had to find the hose , refit and road test.I argued the toss with the manager who was clearly a sales guy with no mechanical knowledge whatsoever. I gave them £60 and told them to sue me for the difference. Edited August 17, 2018 by Payco

The fact that pay is totally performance/time related encourages the guys to rush through jobs to try and smash out as many hours worth of work as they can, rather than taking their time to do things properly and double check what they've done. SiriusProjects
Even when I had my 350Z, a lot of forum members warned me about getting work done at a dealership and the fact that you pay through the nose for parts. Although having recently dealt with a dealer to replace a damaged bit of trim on my 370Z, I was pleasantly surprised. The trim piece cost me just over £80.00, which included VAT and the service I received was excellent. For things like replacing trim or other Nissan specific items, I'm quite happy to use a dealer. As for servicing though, I'm going to stick with my usual mechanic. He's only 10/15 minutes away from where I live and he does provide a courtesy car which is really handy. I've also been using him for 10 years now. So as the saying goes "If it ain't broke, don't fix it". Parts wise, most changes on my 350Z involved replacing a Nissan Part with an Aftermarket Part, so a Nissan Dealer wasn't really required. Lol. Just as well really, otherwise the Cougar Store and Tarmac Sportz would have lost out on business.
