Key fob mysteriously stopped starting car or radio

I've had a look on the forum but none of the topics I found seem to be specifically the issue i'm having....

 

I woke up this morning, unlocked my car using the key remote and got in. At this point it wouldn't start, nothing would power up at all. I tried to lock and unlock the car from the drivers seat but I couldn't even get the key to lock it at this stage. At this point I got out of the car and used the old fashioned lock method to lock the car.

 

I've been sensing the battery is getting weaker for a week or so now so I changed it and went back out to the car. 

 

Unlock worked, but still no start, not even the radio. Lock unlock still wouldn't work from the drivers seat, but worked perfectly as soon as I got out of the car. 

 

I'm fairly sure the car battery is fine, always shows just over 12V. Plus the indicators we're frantically flashing in the lock unlock cycle.

 

Anyone had this issue before?
