burntorange
It's not me as a driver as ive had a tvr chimaera which is a much more aggressive beast with no driver aids and that thing never had a problem.... plus my issue here is I've never had a problem on the exact same roads with this car before and now they are occurring..... hence it has to be something else. Has traction control ever been known to malfunction in this car???
longsh07
Generally no, unless the wheels and tyres have been changed too far from stock sizes. Even then it's still working properly but the difference upsets the system making it cut in when not really required. Are you on stock wheels and tyres sizes? 18x8 et30 225/45/18 front 18x8.5 et33 245/45/18 rear Edited April 27, 2018 by longsh07
Keyser
Not stepping on anyone's toe's here BUT If you are getting such a serious problem then IMHO you need to be looking for a fault, Zeds are not that bad in the stock form, if you push them when running OEM setup they are a bit soft due to the GT design but not as bad as yours seems to be, I'd be looking at bushes, broken drop links or failed shocks. if a shock has failed or a front spring is broken that will give you the sort of weight transfer that may give the lift of oversteer you seem to have. This applies to a broken drop link or bush something that will suddenly shift during the transition from on power to off power. Zeds don't step out at 40mph on a corner if you lift just off - or they shouldn't. Good luck with it but I'd find the issue before upgrading anything and then personally I'd start with the ARB's
longsh07
@Keyser wouldnt that normally be spotted during a geo check? I say normally because I'm well aware of how some garages operate Edit: @burntorange did you get just the tracking done or a full alignment? So yes they should but not saying they would! Only other thing is tyres or traction control, those tyres are not "that" bad and just turn TC off to test - the light should come on if its kicking in anyway. Ah that makes sense @burntorange I guess the best thing you can do is take Alex's advice and get your car booked into somewhere that knows these cars inside out. Explain whats happening and ask them to check out all of the suspension components. If it turns out to be a leaky shock, we'll have come full circle back to what coilovers you should get
burntorange
ive had two different mechanics messing with the components around that area so i would have hoped one of them would of found something, one was for an mot just this week and i watched them yank at all the parts and inspect them and the other was for the full wheel tracking alignment. and as Keyser said i just find it a crazy for a 350z to step out at 40mph, plus i know in the past i have driven this car a lot harder without issue on the same roads as these roads are all in my town and i drive em all the time. Gonna need to find someone who knows what they might be looking for on a ZED near birmingham area.

Just as an addition - I had one incident when I actually got a full on side slide in the Zed at slow speeds and I initially put it down to leaves or oil on the road - it was a broken drop link it does happen. Good luck, gotta hate issues like this. 3 hours ago, burntorange said:
burntorange
im gonna check this myself as those are easy enough to get too.....thing that winds me up about this car, is having to take off the underbody covers to get to the centre jacking points as only got a trolley jack and dont wanna ruin the sills

burntorange
ive not jacked up the rear end as of yet but for some reason i could swear i saw a cover underneath the diff
longsh07
There is a cover on the diff but as Keyser said there is a nub that sticks through. Jack it up on the nub. No need to remove any covers to jack front and rear.

Now i am not in the subscribing to the ditch finder camp for 453's, i used to run nankang ns2's for road use and had zero problems, however, had i been accelerating round a corner and lifted off you can be pretty dam sure i would have expected the car to react, i dare say you would have "some" negative reaction from even premium rubber although less extreme. So why are you lifting in the corner? Edited April 27, 2018 by Jetpilot
burntorange
I dont lift off mid corner, i lift off on a straight to reduce speed, glide into the corner and power out no acceleration beforehand so wouldn't ever expect the cars weight to shift so drastically that it throws it off so bad. I get this behaviour a lot lately on roundabouts going ever so slow. Had it investigated ,nothing found. What do i do? Cant stop driving it i need to work. I dont trust the cars ability anymore to grip so i ain't driving like a nutter as i dont wanna be involved in an accident. Just don't know where to look. Today i was doing about 20mph round a medium sized roundabout no foot on the gas just rolling round and the back stepped out and the rears locked up because of the traction control. Sargara
Make a trip to a specialist that deals in these cars and get their opinion instead of "Gaz" your local mechanic who's good with TVR's or whatever. Not trying to knock them but you said yourself your car has been looked at by multiple mechanics and none of them seem to be of any help, so why not try someone used to these cars? Its worth the trip out of your way even if its for nothing else than peace of mind.
longsh07
@burntorange what size tyres are you running? Not sure you answered this earlier.
ZMANALEX
As I have said previously on numerous occasions in this thread. If you are happy with your tyres, then get a full 4 wheel alignment carried out by a specialist, preferably on a Hunter machine. You really will be amazed by the difference that it makes. I do not think that there is any point in discussing this further until you eliminate the geometry settings.
burntorange
standard sizes fronts 225 45 18 and rears 245 45 18s on rays alloys. ZMAN I have mentioned previously on this thread i have had this carried out to no avail unfortunately. I am trying all the things people are suggesting with no resolution. Tyres, i have had previously with no issues - not that Driving beyond my capabilities - i dont drive any different to how i always have and crawling round a medium sized roundabout at 20mph or even slower and the rears lock up because the traction control kicks in, i challenge anyone to see if thats even possible in their Zed. 4 wheel alignment - done no difference. get someone to have a look at it - done yet admittedly not by someone who is has dealt with this issue on a 350z before. That is the question im asking now as i wouldn't know whom to ask. also if someone has had similar issues please let me know how you solved it
ZMANALEX
Can you post up the print out of the before and after geometry settings that you should have received from the guys that set up your geometry? This will help us to provide further informed assistance.
sisson18
I've recently swapped my Falken 453's to Michelin pilot sport 4S and it's the best upgrade I've done to the zed.

So you say the tc is kicking in, is the light coming on at these 20mph or slower roundabouts? Personally i would suggest you see if there is a nice local member to you who you could meet with, demonstrate the problem too and see if its the same in their car or at the very least put up a video of its behaviour. burntorange
I didnt have hunters 4 wheel alignment I got my long trusted friend mechanic to sort it out for me, he did note that during carrying it out, it was impossible to adjust the my rear offside and had to buy a replacement part before being able to complete it you see i would like to think it was the tyres but i have had the exact same tyres on this car before with no fault beforehand unless they are a dodgy set. checked pressures which are as standard to the settings on the door. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Jetpilot I understand how how it might seem, but there have been many days since i first started this thread and driven it many many times and i have found out things a long the way with listening to people on here and also investigating the car itself by purposely re enacting things i know which seem to cause it. I was misguided by the lift off oversteer, after thinking about it, going out and testing it, i have determined it is definitely NOT lift off oversteer , i can try getting a video of it, but think this will be hard to film the speedo TC flashing and the driving itself. Heres how i see it lets take roundabouts as this is where it is most common place, lets take a roundabout with traffic lights, you drive onto the roundabout, you know there are traffic lights you drive normally around the roundabout, no race day launches, no traffic light starts, just moving with the traffic. The lights are red, you lift off the gas to start to slow down to a controlled stop, as i mentioned no mega acceleration so there should be NO mass movement of weight from the car and i am not lifting off viciously nor bringing the car to a sudden stop, and the traction control lights will flash and i will feel the rears momentarily lock up causing a mini slide from the rear wheels, i can repeat this behaviour every time. longsh07
Do me a favour, after you've been driving the car and come to a stop, touch the alloys and tyres on the rear end. Is one side hotter than the other? Can also try touching the calipers. I wouldn't touch the discs though just in case I'm starting to wonder if one of your brakes is seized and or dragging. That might upset the braked LSD system which will flash the TC light.
Jetpilot
If you can repeat this behaviour every time, get a mate in the car and video it and also try it with the tcs turned off, how are you slowing the car down, gear changes or brakes? What equipment did your long trusted friend mechanic use to check the alignment measurements? Edited May 16, 2018 by Jetpilot
