JB33
So, just bought my 2008 HR with 56k miles and a full Nissan history. It’s now due it’s next service, a P1, so oil and filter. They call me back to say it should have also had its plugs done at 54k. I’m not technical or overly knowledgeable in this area (I just love driving) the car feels great and no stutters. He said it’s worth while getting done if I’m unsure of the history. Would you agree that it needs done? thanks.
mr v6
Easy enough to do yourself with basic tools. Can't remember the last time I let a garage service any of my cars.
veeg33
Spark plugs can be a bit of a mission if you are not familiar with it. Find a local specialist rather then the Stealership.
JB33
Yeh, I’d rather not try it myself; I wouldn’t be confident enough. A local specialist garage quoted £170 and Nissan was £220. Nissan did agree to match their price though if I include it as part my service, and I’m looking to maintain all Nissan stamps. I just wasn’t sure what would happen if I passed but on the plugs? Or would you encourage me to go ahead and just have them done? Jack94
Plugs are supposed to be changed every 5 years so yeah around now is the right time to have them done, not a good idea to neglect any serviceable items or you're just asking for trouble really. From my own experiences and the stories from most of the guys I work with (who come from dealers) , I wouldn't ever take my car to Nissan personally. Not only do they charge silly prices but they're also gonna rush the job because they'll be more worried about their bonus than your car, plus they probably won't be very familiar with the 350 seeing as they stopped production nearly 10 years ago. There's no shame in not being able to do the job yourself but if I were you I'd take your car to one of the well known specialists on here such as H-Dev, Abbey motorsport etc. They know our cars inside out so you know you'll get good service for a fair price. I'd say a stamp from one of those guys is much more valuable than a Nissan one.
veeg33
I think they are good for around 60k to 70k from new. You can probably skip this time. I might be wrong (someone please correct me) - I think your zed will go into limp mode if any plug failed and dash lights, don't think it will destroy your engine (unless you continue to drive it). Have a look at the guide here. 6 x plugs will be around £60-£70 hence £100 for labour (around 2 hrs max for a trained mechanic). If I'm doing it, I'm expecting around 4 hrs. I find joy in disassembling and assembling stuff......I'll learn more about my zed too. You'll probably do a better job than a Nissan mechanic as they are most likely to be as clueless as you are, they don't get many 350z going in.
coldel
Although appreciate that a Nissan stamped book will suck in the average uninformed buyer, a much better selling tactic should you ever sell the car is to start a build thread here and record with pictures everything you do. It would certainly be more of a factor for someone viewing the car than a book of stamps.
JB33
Some good points. I have decided to get a local specialist garage to carry out the work instead. They’re a German specialist and I taken my Z4 there but they’ve said they have done 350s and 370s so, have experience with them. Plus, they’re cheaper than Nissan. It’s them that told me that the plugs needed done, Nissan missed it (surprised).
Tom_K
Hi all, Just jumping in on this thread as I've done a fair bit of forum searching. Which of the traders on here could supply a set of plugs for a VQ35DE (2003 350GT Skyline) I think I'll go for some Denso Iridium Powers...or whatever might be on offer. Thanks

Tom_K
So guys, here’s one. I removed the old plugs and went to fit the news ones but noticed a pretty big difference in length. Anyone had this? My money is on the old plugs being wrong, or would that be a silly assumption?
Adrian@TORQEN
New plugs are correct, looking at the part number on the box.
