M3 Owner from Yorkshire!

Recommended Posts

Hi!

So I've just recently joined the forum, I'm not an owner yet but am looking to purchase a 350z in the next few months...

I currently have an e92 M3 as my daily and although I love it, it's not exactly a practical daily with its 17mpg and associated running costs!

I also need to settle down a bit and save money as the Mrs keeps talking Weddings and babies and what not! I was thinking a 350z would be a nice compromise, still fun and RWD with an LSD but slightly more economical and less expensive to run and insure. I've previously owned an S14a 200sx which was an awesome car so I'm sure the Z wouldn't disappoint.

I'm in massive research mode at the moment trying to decide what model to go for etc but wondered people's opinions on a couple of questions...

Is there enough of a difference to mean I should definitely get an 07 onwards model with the newer engine etc?

Is the roadster worth considering?

I'd also be interested to know if 25+ mpg is realistically possible lol.

I live near Skipton in North Yorkshire so if anyone's local it would be good to meet up,I'd happily exchange a passenger ride in the M3 for a trip out in a 350z so I can get a better feel for them...

Thanks in advance, Stephen

I live in bradford and trip over that way frequently if I'm taking my zed out for a run, sometimes I don't get further than Keighley though.

Check the recent posts and have a read of the HR vs DE thread that's going about.. Loads of opinions on there but generally they are all good engines / variants.    HR is the newest and a bit quicker with some other other extras like bulge bonnet etc.

Mpg is not great on the zed but I think it would be a little better than the m3. Depends how you drive it really

I'm actually in Steeton so Keighley is just down the Bypass, I just say Skipton as most people haven't heard of Steeton unless they're local...

Just been reading that thread now thanks, like you say, there doesn't seem to be much in it so guess I should just focus more on getting the right car!

I do have quite a heavy foot to be fair, hence the poor mpg in the M3

My Zed averages about 24Mpg, thats with a couple of junctions on the M1 some national roads and some towns to work every day and some milling about town taking my family places. Pretty much in a cruise on the motorway at 70 i get about 35mpg roaming through town its about 16 or 12 if its really stop start. Just to give you some numbers to play around in your head with :D

Awesome thanks!

Yeah best I can seem to get on a long motorway journey is about 26-27, my daily commute is a short 10 mile trip with mainly fast a roads and a small amount of town work.

Mpg isn't really the be all and end all, it would just be nice to get a little more than 200 miles to the 70 quid I spend on fuel a week

E92 M3 was going to be my next choice of cars as I've grown up around BMW M cars

Might stick with my zed now I know I get 10 more mpg than you ;)

All jokes aside, in my opinion a well looked after zed is one of the best cars money can buy under 10k.

My best advice... buy on condition rather than engine type e.g. DE/Rev Up/HR, they all have their pros and cons which you'll find on here and you won't regret what one you choose as long as it's been looked after

Heyup Steve. Welcome along, I’m in Pontefract so not too far away. My 350HR wont be the best to test for what you will be buying as its had a lot done to it so drives completely different to a stock HR but if you plan on upgrading any aspect give me a shout. Mitz is the man post above) for servicing and work, although in Leicester its worth the trip as there are no “specialists” round our way

Haha don't let me put you off, it's an incredible car and part of me thinks I should go f80 M3 next or keep it as I love the M's so much but... I need to reduce my monthly costs for a while so think it's time to go 'slightly' more sensible for a while.

Cheers for the advice, I'll bear that in mind

Hi, thanks! Judging by your name I assume you have a detailing company? I've neglected my M3 for a while so maybe I could kill 2 birds with 1 stone and pop over for a bit of a clean whilst also checking out your car! :teeth:

I'm taking my zed for a drive tonight I think.. I've been feeling like an m3 next haha ;)

But yeah condition and mileage should be the thing to go for unless you get your heart set in a specific model.

Haha I'll pm you my number, if you ever do end up this way by all means give me shout and I'll show you the M and check out yours if I'm free...

Just supplying the products at the minute steve. But if you want to treat the car take a look at the website. PM me for a discount code if you need anything. It is very rewarding detailing your own car and saves you £££. Its just getting the time and in this country the weather.  Your welcome to pop over though and have a look at the zed if you want.

Yeah I checked your site after I'd posted and realised.

I used to really enjoy detailing whilst I had the 200sx but since moving house and no access to a hose pipe etc I've just never bothered with the M3....

I might take you up on that and head over at some point for some inspiration etc. Are there any Yorkshire meets at all?

:welcome: If you can stump up the extra cash for an HR, then it is definitely worth it in my opinion. Better interior than the DE and better engine than the DE Rev Up. I manage to get about 19mpg, but mine is a daily and I crawl through traffic to get to work... could be worse though, I could be in a diesel Audi or something equally dull.

There are reasonably frequent meets which start from Skipton (Last one was August). Keep an eye on the Yorkshire and North West section of the Events Forum. Good luck with your search!

Hello and welcome  As Paddy mentioned, you can join one of the meets.

Mine is up for sale at the moment (only in this forum at the moment, hence might still be around when you are ready to make a purchase). Link to sales page is on my signature below.

Thanks guys, I'll keep an eye out for a local meet!

Had a good chat with Jords last night so I'm pretty set on one, just need to decide whether I could live without the luxury, fun, power and noise of  the M!
