Nismo Bonnet Decal - Advice needed

Ok. Not strictly 'Bodywork' as such, but... I need some advice with decals.

My 350Z has an 'S-Tune' style Nismo bonnet decal fitted (as well as quite a few other OEM upgrades), either as a limited run by the factory or as an aftermarket addition by a previous owner. But as you can see from the picture, the S is now chipped and the O is badly faded. I want to replace this with a shiny new decal.

The problem seems to be sourcing one... The one currently fitted is exactly 156 x 15mm. I was able to get a reproduction one on ebay that is 150 x 15mm, but 6mm is enough when you line up the N that the O is clearly a good bit off. There are also genuine Nismo decals available on ebay: "Genuine Nissan White Medium Nismo Sticker Decal" (most of which come stamped with the part number number '999G1-SR002WT'). The exact size is a little bit of guess-work depending on the seller, but they are listed as: 6" x 7/8", 6" x 0.75", 6 1/8 " x 1", 6" x 0.7". Either way, they certainly seem to be at least in the ball park for size, but again are a bit short (6" = 152.4mm), and these actually look to be a bit too tall also (0.7" = 17.8mm).

I suppose my two main options are to just get hold of a genuine one and T-Cut the residue of the current one off completely before carefully fitting; or alternately get a local decal specialist to custom make me an exact replica of mine.

Does anybody have any thoughts?

Remove what you have and add what you want, the effort to try and match them only to find even if the sizes are perfect there's 10 years of wear to one element just isn't worth it.

Did you buy the car based on it being genuine NISMO? I'm guessing not since your unsure if it's genuine from the factory in which case your not selling it as such so all that matter is it looks the best it can, and that means replacing it.

Thanks for the tip. I reckon you're probably right. I think I will source a genuine Nismo decal and then try and remove what is currently there before applying.

I'm not sure if it is a genuine Nismo special edition; there seems to be some debate whether or not that is even a thing. But I do want to keep it as it is, and as you say, removing the current one and replacing it with a new genuine one close to that size is likely to be the best way to go.

Hiya, I can supply you a new one if you like as long as you send me the measurements, I have the Nismo logo which i used to replace the existing ones on my LMGT4s after a wheel refurb although it is very slightly different to yours, there are a few variations!...Personally id remove they existing one and lightly clean the adhesive with a little degreaser and buy a half decent one off Ebay or i can send you one!

Finally got round to fitting the genuine Nismo decal this week that I'd sourced from eBay some time ago, and I am very pleased with the result.

If anyone needs to do the same, first I recommend apply some masking tape to help give you an indication of the correct placement of the decal for when you are applying the new one. Gently remove the old decal slowly by picking and pealing it off. Then give it a good rub down with some white spirit and a cloth to remove any remaining sticker residue. Even following this I could still see a faint outline of the sticker, so I gave it a quick rub down with T-Cut, which really did the trick. Before applying the new decal give the area a quick buff with clean cloth to ensure there is no product residue remaining. Then just carefully apply the new decal ensuring no air bubbles and give each letter a firm rub with your thumb before very slowly and carefully peel the paper away at an angle, ensuring that none of the corners of any of the letters are lifting off the bodywork with the paper.

Glad to hear that your bonnet is back to it's former glory.

These stickers were supplied to the dealership when you ticked the option for Nismo Aero kit when buying a new zed.

13 years after collecting my Nismo Aero kitted Zed I'm still contemplating whether or not to put my stickers on
