Probably not but the evenings are drawing in and back in the day when I was building my 350z I know at least a few of you enjoyed my shenanigans I also need to give @leonk some inspiration to get that lovely E type of his finished and @andybp misses picking on my photographic skills So not working on the Zed yet but I can bring you up to speed on the Radical. After the rebuild and dyno - we got 348HP on this run we then upped the boost but she broke traction and spun the wheels at about 350HP, she will make 400 if we want to dial her up to 2 bar but I'm happy at 350 at just under 1.5 bar Here it is in action IMG_0618.MOV So we have been out on 2 track days since the build and have bumped into a few issues so lets start getting those teething problems sorted out Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Keyser Posted December 1, 2017 Author Share Posted December 1, 2017 (edited) So the first problem we found on the shake down was completely down to me I put the shift lights on the steering wheel in the middle and they looked great - until you put a full face helmet on and realise you can't see them so upgrade 1 was to move them to the top of the wheel Moving swiftly on We have an issue with heat and heat soak, the first part of the problem is that the turbo, now the hottest point sits in a dead spot as far as air flow is concerned on a motorbike the turbo would be hanging out the front of the engine in this case the turbo sits directly behind the seats and firewall where there is no airflow at all! The back side of the engine has plenty of air but not the front so after a bit of thinking I bought two sets of these - Take a side pod Cut a hole test fit paint and fit Add some ducting and then point the ducts in the right direction with some ally tube Add GREEN powder coat I was almost happy with that except when you put a jubilee clip on the duct It collapses Bad design really, but like most of us I keep a bar or 2 of poly something or other laying about to make bushes and spacers so I made these and they go in the end like so Problem solved Lots more coming soon Keyser Edited December 4, 2017 by Keyser Phone number in pics 1 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Keyser Posted December 2, 2017 Author Share Posted December 2, 2017 (edited) Thanks Leon, I know the feeling just spent a load on the turbo and engine rebuild and now spending again on the supporting mods - Mind you it is fun to drive! We have an AMS 2000 boost controller now that gives 5 settings 1 being 6 psi and about 185HP that we used on the first day to make sure everything was bedded in and finish the run in. On the second day I moved it to position 2 about 10psi 230ish HP and OMG is she quick now it added about 5mph to the top end on the straight but it's the extra power out of the corners where you really feel it Next on the list for cooling was to upgrade the old Bosch water pump (20 l/m) to a high performance one Bosch Replacement 80 l/m and side by side Yer that's not going to be a one for one swap then! I did some very careful and accurate measurement then a detailed design plan - Still it came out close to that of course that needs some weight redution test fit Getting there , it's also good practice for my ally welding which I have been practising Top mount and final test fit All looking good so powder coat and fit up Then we added an electric fan to the radiator this will allow us to run the water pump and radiator fan in the pits more so when we come in the heat soak can be reduced, currently she is coming in at around 86 degrees on the cool down lap then going up to 110+ when you switch the engine off or stop moving! It's what Eagle use but the lightweight E types went to a dry sump system and a completely different front end set up. Then again they are a million plus. Google "hole swage", it swages the hole and makes the bracket a lot stronger. Really useful things to have. Keyser Posted December 4, 2017 Author Share Posted December 4, 2017 Cheers Leon - May have dropped a hint to the wife for Christmas I'll get a pic of my new oil cooler for you soon we have upgraded that as well I took a quick pic of the new air ducts final location to keep air flowing over the turbo - In my earlier build and pre test run you may remember we setup 2 small radiators for the charge cooler, well they don't work! I think it's mostly air flow again but the charge cooler is not getting cool enough and thats not even in the summer when the ambient air temp will pe up another 10 degrees! So back to playing silly games Wood frames wedges, measure put the back on take it off etc etc Then we got the dimensions of a new bigger rad (use one medium size as opposed to two smaller) and we made a mock up - We have a fit YAYYY So Rad was ordered we made some mounts and then started on an air scoop - Getting close now That's pretty much it but we need to finish the water lines before it is completely finalised. So to get the water system finished I needed to do a bit of work on my ally welding skills (or lack off) I then found a great tutorial on-line what you do is build a box but drill and tap one side so you can put an airline connector into the box - weld it up and pump it full of compressed air - if it leaks try again if it holds air then the welds are good Took a few attempts but ........................... Now that learning should come in handy for the next bit of fabrication More Soon Keyser PS - I spent a whole week building aluminium boxes - cut the sides tack them then weld them test for leaks and repeat - I now have a pile of scrap aluminium boxes (most are not air tight ) and it cost me a 20l bottle of Pure Argon, a couple of welding tips and a few dozen filler rods, but hey we all gotta learn 3 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

That's the first bucket the one we "shot" For the rest of you - Matt dropped in on Saturday - We were pressure testing a pipe I had welded (more on that later) one end did not have a "bump" in it to stop the pipes sliding off so I just put a bung in the pipe jubilee clipped it on and put about 110psi of air into the other end - Yes I created a high power spud gun It held the air fine no leaks then after about 10 seconds the bung blew out of the end and straight through the side of the bucket above - you will see a new testing bucket soon Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

There is also a handy little too for making a pipe swage if Santa's list isn't finished yet. You can probably make one (tool) on your lathe though with a male and female part.
