Varis Carbon Hatch Now Fitted.

Well after having the Varis carbon hatch sitting around for around 6 months I finally got time to fit it last Saturday afternoon. It was a little tricky to fit in particularly been brave enough to drill the carbon to fit the "Power Enterprise" rear spoiler. :o This job is most definatly a two man job as the stock hatch is really heavy and needs alot of care when moving it off the car. One slip and it would make a nasty mess of your paint work.

Rather than utilise the standard glass I opted to go for a perspex rear window. I called the profesionals in to fit this and they did a good job. One thing I have noticed is the perspex is easy to scratch so you need to be very carefull when cleaning the car.

It was amazing how much lighter the carbon hatch is compared to the standard hatch which ways an absolute tone. My previously tired bonnet lifters that had previously given up the ghost, but now operate with reniewed vigour and lift the new hatch with ease.

I decided to save weight further and did not refit the rear wiper or motor. I do however need to find a suitable gromit for the hole as I am currently using electrical tape to stop any water ingress.

I was a little worried about the carbon rear spoiler been fitted to the carbon hatch but I used several extra big washers and metal plates on the underside of the carbon skin on the hatch to make sure it is'nt going any where. Although tempted to save further weight I decided to refit all the interior pannels back to the hatch to give it that OEM look from inside.

Here's the pic's, it's worth noting the fitment and quality of the weave on the Varis items. They really do make the best Carbon parts avialable bar none!

Not sure on the exact weight saving but it was at least less than half the weight and probably more. The OEM hatch is very heavy. I will check with Varis and see what they come back with.

Thanks

Kevin

Kevin, do you know how much weight this saves over the standard hatch?

That looks stunning Kev. Have to agree Varis carbon is superb, I'm loving my Varis carbon lip :teeth:

Are you going to paint it or leave the weave on show? I think it could look quite good pained to match the car, but thin enough to see the weave. Kind of what I'm thinking of doing if I get a carbon bonnet.

Thanks

What impact does this have on the car’s balance? Have you reduced weight on the front to match?

it would look naff on my car but looks excellent on a car modified like yours esp with the blue B)

you should be able to get a suitable gromit in the plumbing section of a diy store. 350z-tech has a guide here which is a decent example of how to plug the hole up if you hadn't already seen it

The Yen exchange rate has really slumpt in recent months currently hovering around the JPY200 - £1 mark. It was 250 at its highest but has really taken a nose dive. The current price for just the hatch would be £795 the perspex rear window would be £295.

Thanks

Kevin

so go on then give us a shock, how much for the carbon hatch + perspex window ?
