delboydunn
New to the site, and got a lovely 35th anniversary Zed from Jap, the Uk dealer I bought it from told me it only had one key and that it was a simple job to get a new key cut for a tenner as it was not specific to the car, and it was the remotes that were expensive of which I have 2. I have read a few threads on keys and I am a but lost.... Can anyone shed some light if the dealer has sold me down the river (or the M1) Thanks
stuey
you cant just cut a key............ the keys are matched up wiv the ecu........ cost me £
Zedrush
yep id go back to the dealer and tell them they can have the car back unless they get you two sets of keys, thats the biggest load of crap ive heard, its not a quick job and its definatly not a tenner be very careful, how did they explain where the other key was? jim
You need a specific coded key to disarm the immobiliser AFAIK, hence the expense.
delboydunn
Just to let you all know I have spoke to the garage I bought it from and they are having a look into, they are still thinking it will cost a tenner so I told themm thats great and to sort it out. They say when they bring the cars over they put a Cat 1 alarm and immobiliser on the car which is the remote I was given, what they are not sure is if the key is running in tandom with it or it has been made redundant...will keep you informed. janz70
Has your 35th had a UK immobiliser/alarm fitted as part of the SVA coz if it has wouldnt it be a simple case of getting the key cut as the old imobiliser will have been removed
delboydunn
Yes it has, and my dealer are just trying to work out if that has happened?!?!
GC350z
I thought JDM cars didn't have an immobiliser?
lomoto
I thought JDM cars didn't have an immobiliser? chip in key same as UK
janz70
I'd get a key cut (dealer paid for ) and give it a try. Obvisously keep the original key well away from the car as it will deactivate the imobiliser if it contains the chip mentioned
delboydunn
Its going on and on this....after visiting 3 dealers Leeds Bradford and Huddersfield, they have sent me to Bolton to their recommended key company who do seem to know whatthey are talking about. The key DOES have a chip in it and they took chasis number and pics etc and looked to be going well. Until this morning when I was told that I need to look for a BCM number that is on a small white sticker with a cross on it somewhere on the car....but no clue as to where apparently it has a 5 digit number I need... any ideas where this is??? Zummertor
I think drive footwell, behind side panel. In manual BCS manual page 17 how to remove/install Two types of key available Master and Slave type of thing I'm guessing not much difference price as it will be the time to do the work that makes up a lot of the bill. That said some keys can be very expensive (learnt that when losing one on a beach). My guess is this one isn't too bad.
