Kev
Decided to give my car a good clean today. The car had been sat on my drive running for about 40 mins. I went to grab some polish from my shed and when I returned, I noticed a tiny pool of petrol near my rear drivers side wheel. It must have just happened as there wasn't much there at all. The leak stopped as soon as I turned it off, so I'm assuming it's a corroded fuel line rather than a tank leak? Thanks
ZMANALEX
The fuel leak could be cased by a few things. How full is your tank ? Best to get it on a ramp asap for further investigation.

The tank is between 1/4 and half full. The car come out of storage on Friday and there were no signs of leaks when it was moved. No leaks yesterday either. I'm not using the car at the moment. It's my second car and has been in storage sorn as I've had a load of work and family issues to deal with. It's currently sat on the drive and won't be going anywhere until it's sorted. The leak appears to be coming from where the line meets the tank......I think. And is only present when the engine is running. I'll be booking it in for its mot next week. Not expecting any other issues as it's had 2 services, tyres and new brakes in the last 1000 miles. I just hope this is a quick fix as the garage is a few miles away. ZMANALEX
With the engine running your fuel system will be pressurised which will be highlighting the leak. You will be fine driving to the garage, providing it does not drip onto the exhaust.
Exec
Die Hard's Bruce Willis 'yippee kay yay' moment sprung to mind. As Alex said, as long as exhaust doesn't ignite it you should be find to the garage. Strange how it's happened after being dry stored. Dracostan
Sounds like a perished line - car stored for a while, the hose drys out from not having fuel go through on a regular basis - maybe an opportunity to replace the main line with braided ?!
taybo
Happend to me today on the M5. Fuel line 'came off' at pump. Fuel spilling near tank only when ignition turned. 3 hours for RAC to turn up. Lovely!
Kev
I'm confused. Just had a mobile mechanic out to fix it and.........no leak. Could it be the fuel has dropped to to low a level in the tank? I assumed it was a line because it only leaked when the engine was running? It was a dry day when I noticed the leak, pissing down this morning. Willsy1980
Possibly the O ring on top of the tank where the pump seals down ?
Kev
Possibly the O ring on top of the tank where the pump seals down ? Could well be. I've got a feeling it's a slow leak so something like that would make sense. It's going for its mot this week so it will get sorted.

This guy had a similar issue, was the O ring so thought it was worth a mention And 5.09 in this one
Kev
The leak wasn't present when the car was mot'd but I occasionally get a strong petrol smell. I have a feeling its the o ring as Willsy suggested. Is is it a big job to replace it? Surely the tank doesn't have to be dropped? I was just reading the thread about the fuel tank replacement and it sounds like a right PITA.
ZMANALEX
The O ring is reached through the Bose grill behind the seat, It is at the very top of the tank and will only leak when the tank is full or when on a steep incline. You have to remove the in tank fuel pump to replace the O ring
Kev
I'm definitely getting the petrol smell when going down hills. Althought the the first time I noticed it, the car was on the drive stationary, tank was half full and the engine had been running for about 40 mins. There was a tiny pool of petrol just behind the drivers door. Edited July 26, 2017 by Kev

You have to remove the in tank fuel pump to replace the O ring I just watched a YouTube video. Seems like a easy DIY job even for me. Especially on a LHD car. They just have a cover in the glovebox that pops off.
