Is it a PITA to upgrade sound system?

As above, I've got the GT edition 370z, the Bose setup is good. But my ICE is the following:

JL HD 900/5

Hertz HSK 165 XLs would be bridged

Good quality cabling & a high end Alpine Double DIN can't remember model right now but it was £700+ and leagues ahead of the Nissan system.

Rockford fosgate slimline 12" sealed sub 400w I think

I'm sure the alpine HU has the capability to have a reverse cam fitted but would it be possible to get it auto turn on when in reverse like it does on the stock unit ?

At the very least my Amp and speakers are far superior to the Bose, which ain't bad at all. I'm just unsure if I want to lose features by fitting my alpine HU, which is better at everything, sat nav, audio quality only I would miss the reverse cam if this can't be retained. Then there's all the cabling, my cables are definitely better but is it gonna cost a lot to redo this as I'm no DIY guy, I pay fir the labour.

Any info or advice appreciated, cheers !

I see pics now that I can actually retain the stick sat nav etc and install the double DIN under neath. This is good in a way but confuses the hell out of me, how can I run both at the same time exactly ? 520ee77011081165a36b514cecdf66f1.png

Pic above night be wrong but basically the after market HU goes below, allowing me to keep the stock infotainment system or whatever, but the alpine is the ons I want to run. 🤔🤔🤔🤔

It shouldn't be a problem to wire up a reverse cam to your new HU should it?

The two I've fitted both had a signal feed (taken from the reverse light) which tells the HU you're in reverse and to switch to the camera feed automatically. You'd probably have to run a cable to the reverse light wire but that's not a massive deal. Don't know if the existing camera could be reused.

Thank you SuperStu, that's all I'm worried about losing really but I don't understand how they would both function together

don't want to diy try r35audio on here he will come to you :teeth:

Is that his exact name and is he reputable? If I could be given a quote I might be tempted. It's very expensive, this will be the 3rd car my sound system has been in

As suggested try Andy@r35audio, he's new on here but the stuff Andy's posted up so far looks quality. I'm sure you'd get a definitive and informed answer.

I have hundreds of happy GTR customers all over the world and have sponsored the biggest USA GTR forum and UK GTR forum for many years :) I work with many specialist tuning shops and dealers and are even first to call from a few Nissan dealerships on the audio system which the 370z shares in all but a few specs.

It would take LOTS of effort to get a new head unit installed and I'm not sure this would be a priority. It's not something I would get involved in at this stage and certainly not on-site away from my workshop. Getting your amp, speakers and sub in would be a great idea.

So you think leave the stock HU, but get someone to install my JL Audio HD 900/5 and Hertz HSX 165 XL comps and the sub. I've got some Hertz coaxials for the tears too but I think I'd rather bridge the fronts so I've got like 150rms or 200rms going to each front comp. They're rated at 150 but I've been told more is better, with gains down. I've been told that even 100w per channel is not enough to get the best out of my Hertz comps.

Yes, I would leave the stock HU in place. The JL audio amp is similar to the Hertz HDP5 I use in my PnP kit. There are 3 options open with my kit and you are in the same boat with the JL amp. You can bridge the 4 channels to 2 and double up on power with 150w going to the doors/tweeters or, in my mind, a better option for sound quality, would be to keep the amp at 4 channel for the front but run them active so you have 2 x 75w for the bass speaker and 2 x 75w for the tweeter. Ok, so it might not reach quite the same SPL as 2 x 150w shared but it should be more dynamic and less stress on the amp. I would suggest you speak with the installer and see what they think but thats my opinion. You would need to add another 2 channel amp for the rears or keep the Bose amp in place with the rears connected for some rear fill.
