dando
Hi, I've just had the book thrown at me on the MOT, at least on the advisories. Been told that corrosion has started on both rear inner sills, and the rear suspension mounting areas are corroded but not excessively. The guy has told me that the rear subframe is at risk of corrosion, and it's best to fabricate some new metal in there now. Anyone here had to do this before, any idea of the cost involved? Strudul
Rear inner sills is super common, but tricky to resolve permanently. Need to get them cut out and new metal welded in.
evilscorp
Rear subframe is aluminium so unlikely its corroded just the parts that bolt to it.
Jay84
Out of interest has it been at crescent motors in Burton?
dando
I can't see anywhere in its history where it has been there, and it's good to know that the subframe itself -probably- wont have to be removed, hopefully! Good to know that it is a common thing, and it doesn't mean mine has had it worse than any others. Starting to look like a manageable fix on its own, but you can see my conundrum now it needs 4 tyres, a front wishbone and two brake pipes as well! Jay84
I asked as there is one there atm and you are down as being in staffs. At least it's only advisories
gareth29
By subframe, does he mean the W-brace, as that suffers badly from rust?
dando
The W brace is just rust too unfortunately. That was in the advisories too, but he definitely said the rear suspension mounting areas was the concern
