Hi all, I've replied to all of this according to the posts on the page, I've missed out on some posts on page two but I hope I replied to all of your points.

@Stan Hi Stan, thanks for your reply, I remember seeing that somewhere on the internet but I wasn't certain. Thank you for clearing that up, I just hope I can find one for the 7k budget :). As for the fairlady, I'm not certain about that decision considering the downs on it but considering I'm planning to modify it, I'm not entirely sure how that weighs out to the budget.

@ZeeZeebaba I'm so happy to see a reply like this! I agree with you about the cosmetic changes that came with the 06, I'm just having huge difficulty finding one that just came before the tax that's in my budget. I'm seeing those kind of 350z's hitting around the 9-10k which isn't ideal for my budget sadly. I had no idea that the HR were heavier cars than the standard DE, I suppose it's understandable considering the cosmetic and engine changes on the vehicle, but I see what you mean about the costs. I personally think no matter what 350z I get the costs are going to be substantially high to repair or even modify it. It kind of makes me think about what kind of things I'm able to afford to modify it or if I do, which approach do I go for, performance? Exhaust? Looks? Interior? The list is endless for a beautiful project car like the 350. Haha I'm amazed to hear that you did that, if you don't mind; do you have any pictures of your project or a list of what you've done to it prior to you purchasing it? I understand that having a car like a 350z with endless possibilities for modifications to make it yours can go on forever but I think it's still worth asking :D.

It's funny you mention the oil... the problem I've heard that is quite common in the 350z my friends have owned is that it drinks oil like no tomorrow. I'm assuming that's normal for these powerful cars? Do you service your car every 10k miles you put on it or every 6 months?

Ah yeah I've heard the standard suspension for the 350z is absolutely terrible in the long run, I think that would be one of the first modifications I would do to mine.... but making it sound like a flyby GTR with a nismo exhaust is too tempting.. :stir:

@Rickdon And then black... once you go black you never go back right? Haha... but I do like the silver colour on the 350z, more towards the lighter silver than the dark greyish one though. Anything that looks closer to the limited edition pearlwhite is a dream~

@Irn Bru This guy knows what he's talking about... the ginger is strong in this one.

@willsly1980 We talking Gunmetal now? I reckon the 350z looks good in any colour... How's that for you guys? (Not so sure about Ginger tho, sorry Irn Bru ;) ). Uhhh roadstars with their soft-tops. I'm not sure why, but something about soft-top cars in any sorts just gives me the creeps. I've driven a few 350z's around my local area but that was a long time ago. I plan to relive that experience once I finish my university course next month.

@jimmy.farrow This gives 25hp? Damn 350z you've come a long way. Oh we're talking serious now? Haha yeah, I'm planning to get it from a RAC approved dealer rather than private. The last few 350z's I looked at privately looked so sketchy it kind of turned me off from the entire "private" thing.

@Irn Bru Well hello again good sir ;). It's interesting you point that out but I doubt I would be able to find a 350z in these forums that are within a 100mile proximity to my area. I do see you guys cherish your 350z though. It would be a dream to buy the dream car off one of you guys! It's a long shot but I'll have a browse around at some point of the game. Wow, haha a belated congratulations dude but I'm glad you managed to get such a beautiful car from this forums and good job tracking it down! (Maybe I might be so lucky soon enough  )

@Davey_83 I'm definitely going to go for the GT edition, don't you worry.

@Olly350z Ohhhh my gooood! 350z guru~ Your the man! That's super useful. Also thank you for the welcome

@PeteWixx Hi there! Thanks for the welcome. Haha I've been looking since November sadly! I used to be a Toyota Celica GT owner until someone absolutely trashed it. Been working my butt off ever since to look for the perfect 350z. Oh my god, I know exactly how you feel! It's happened to me countless times when I was so close to purchasing a 350z after viewing it to find someone else has bought it. You managed to get your hands on a HR edition for under 6k? I'm curious about the miles on it o__o. (Must know more)

@ZeeZeebaba The Nissan 350z Guru+1 with the grammar specification correction has arrived. ;) Good info though, thanks!

@Codel Hi Codel! Thanks for replying. Oh I'm fully aware of the repair bills after my friend decided to take his 350z out drifting into a curb. It's good to note that there is hardly any noticeable performance differences between those models though, thanks!

By the time I get the 350z, I'll have a slush fund for repairs. I think I'll have to start working on that list I've mentioned earlier. I'm thankful that you mention that now though, it's a lot to think about for a car like this. However I think if I get my hands on one that's been well taken care of I wouldn't have to worry about those issues until I'm in the long run.

@GreenLandy

It's funny you mention that considering Codel pointed out that there's hardly any noticeable performance differences. But I must ask, does any 350z owner use the built in bloody satnav in the 2006+ versions? I personally think it looks like garbage. I see you're point there, but sadly I don't have much more money than that laying around my friend. I suppose that's why my search has been so long and deep.

I removed the standard nav, purchased a standard cubby with lid and put a Tomtom inside :)

I was lucky to get hold of the later front lights from a member on here and the led rears come up quite often on here too. All were just plug and play and the bi xenon units are better than the originals.

I refrained from getting a facelift front bumper though and opted for a zunsport grill instead.

Interior wise I ditched the black leather in favour of a set of alezan ones, I did this to lighten it up and contrast nicely with the (very common) gunmetal exterior. I've not bothered with the centre consul but I do have some newer door cards awaiting a retrim to match the seats.

Mechanically she's had all suspension components replaced, Miltek exhaust system, Berk HFCs, 06 airbox, plenum spacer, new plugs and coils, Uprev map. She has a short shifter plus new clutch and slave and the obligatory moly slip additive in the box.

I've just replaced the W brace as part of an underside tidy up.

All variants are cracking cars whichever you decide to go for, I was lucky to buy a strong car, it could have gone the other way.

Also I must add this forum is one of the best I've been a member of, as with most on here I'm a member on other car forums and this one by far contains the nicest and most helpful people I've encountered.

I'm moving on this year to Lotus but I'm still going to hang around here it's been great :)

Good luck on your search mate.

Louis: ALL built-in 350Z sat-navs are completely rubbish. I have a double-DIN after market stereo with sat-nav built in. And whilst Coldel is right in that there isn't much in the cars performance wise, it is a more powerful engine for pub bragging rights :D

And regarding oil usage, neither of my Zs has had much oil usage at all - the DE was 120k too.

Also, PPod, at the risk of sounding like an HR fanatic (I like all Zs), that's not really comparing like with like is it. I could mod my HR to beat a stock lambo probably, but not really comparable.

I would imagine off the line the rev up probably edges it by a nose, in gear and on the move the extra torque edges it for the earlier model? Ultimately on the road, if you were dropped into one of them blindfolded and then drove it (blindfold off!) you wouldn't be able to tell one from the other. Worth noting as well the dyno thread on here, plenty of DEs making more power than the revup simply due to condition. Pretty sure it was something of a roulette what power you got on the car.

If it's not been said already....get yourself down to Japfest at the end of the month, there's kicking 100 members from here going with all sorts of standard, modified and super modified Zeds attending. If you've not got transport down at the mo, I'm pretty sure there'll be a member close to you who would be happy to pick you up on route and bring you to the show.

Edit: Don't make the mistake of limiting your buying area to 100 miles. It well worth travelling for the right car. Plus many members on here would be will to meet up with you to go and view the car with you

@ZeeZeeBaba Good on you for removing the standard nav, I will definitely do the same thing and replace it with a cubby. Alezan seats eh? I'm not sure how I feel about those since the only ones I've seen are the orange ones. Unless they're white ones then that would look amazing. All in all, it looks like you've made some nice modifications to make the car yours, I'll definitely take note for mine in the future, I'm just stuck in which exhaust system I should get to sound similar to a flyby GTR. (

)

I'm definitely sold with this forum though, all of you are so friendly and helpful!

@GreenLady Haha I thought so! That's sounds awesome. Since you mention the stereo, is it worth upgrading the sound system in the 350z? I've heard they are a nightmare to configure properly with aftermarket stereos.

Also good to know about the oil.

@Irn Bru Oh man I'd love to get myself down to Japfest... :'( Too bad the time is right next to when my project is due, I better get my head down next week. I do have transport but it's nothing like a 350z XD, just a "get around" car for the moment till I do find one. Would be awesome to meet someone from the forums down there though!

I'll keep in mind about the miles :) hopefully I make some friends on here to give me a hand when I find one!

@Davey_83 Hi there Davey, thanks for the link. Unfortunately it's out of my budget and I'm looking for black leather interior seats :)

Absolutely worth upgrading - the OEM one comes with a tape player FFS! I've done the swap in 2 of mine and found it fairly easy, albeit I am fairly confident with vehicle wiring. The speakers/woofer aren't too bad so I've always left them standard.

Reading this thread with interest as I'm having the same searching going on for a roadster.

Current debate for me = is the rev up car sufficiently better to justify the double tax.

Must note that the issue for isn't paying the extra tax per se, it's the feeling of being shafted for paying double than the guy stood next to me with basically exactly the same car but a month older. Just feels like a pain point for me.

I think I'm the first person here to vouch for the RevUp. I bought one on purpose!

Here's why:

- Better looks. I so much prefer the facelift front, new lights, new interior... everything. I think despite only being 4 years newer, its aging much better after these last 11 years.

- 296 BHP straight out of the gate. It's the same motor as the DE just revs higher (hence the name) with improved timing (hence ability to rev higher), bigger plenum (so no need for a plenum) and a bunch of other tweaks. Same bottom end as far as I'm aware. I believe this is also connected to the better of the two gearboxes Nissan have used.

- The HRs are very expensive for what you get. I've driven HR's old and new and seem to remember not liking the clutch but otherwise not really seeing any improvement. There are differences, but it's not really quicker. I did like how high it revved though, 75mph in 2nd is ridiculous. They're more because they're rare, and rarity's not good value! Don't forget those gallery gaskets, too.

The only potential downsides are the Tax and the oil usage. Mine uses between 0.5-0.8l of oil per 1000 miles depending on driving conditions. This is very manageable and regular checking's just good maintenance anyway. It really isn't an issue.

The tax; I spend £80 a week on fuel for all the commuting I do in my Z, the tax difference is less than 3 weeks worth of fuel, I'm really not fussed. What I spend on tyres, brakes, clutches (ugh), coilovers, exhausts, intakes, insurance... another couple hundred a year in tax is pretty negligible haha.

+1 I have a rev up and love it. I think we all love our zed whichever we own though. All are smile inducing. Whichever of the 3 you get, if it's been well looked after, will be a pleasure to own. Although I can't vouch for the standard clutch as I bought mine with an uprated clutch.

For the MY06 is a facelift, both interior and exterior - Yes with extra power in most cases making it 0.1sec to 60mph quicker however with less lb-ft real world performace will be very similar. It isnt fundamentally a better car imo, to warrant the extra paid in tax year in year out.

Yeah I've had some huge difficulty looking for one let alone finding one in my budget range. But I was originally considering getting a 2005 FairLady model in pearl white. Considering the colour is so rare to find I'm opening up my options a bit.

Pearl white only came out for 2008 i believe so its not OEM color for a 2005
