Jetpilot
To confuse matters even more they did a 13b-re which was used on the Cosmo, actually the best engine to start with as the side ports were bigger than rew. During the last 6 months of ownership (a long time ago) parts were increasingly difficult to get hold of for the engine as Mazda had or was running out of stock, hence the increase in cost, always best to talk to a specialist if you ever go down that route, you can be sure of what you are getting that way. So all the engines were 13B they just had different sub text behind them. I guess ill have to come into a bunch of money if i want to own an FD at any point from the sounds of it xD. Jetpilot
Yes and no, there were 12a's, 20b's but in reality all you will be interested in will be the 13b rew if you go down the Rx7 route.

Well thanks for the infomation The 20B is the flame spitting sort of racing spec one right? If I do ever manage to nab myself an FD I will be sure to check its got the proper heart in it
Jetpilot
20b is the 3 rotor found in the Mazda Cosmo, basically just the the same as a 13b rew with an extra rotor, the race motor was the 26b 4 rotor

redzed8
Id love a 3 or 4 rotor just a shame they cost so much for the engine then fitting and plumbing it in ect. It hurts my feelings thinking about the costs haha. Redsky get and drive a rotary youl love it even with the 13b rew its still bad ass and sounds like nothing else on the roads. If I could afford it I would xD Would be interesting to feel the difference between cylinder and rotary. Just worried that if it were say an RX-8 I might have a dimmer view since they seem to have a pretty bad rep.
redzed8
Yeah to be fair i dont like the look of the rx8 and the performance figures are supposed to be a bit optimistic, The rx7 is rapid and feels much faster then my 350z. Not sure if thats because of the boost when it kicks in or what but they are two different animals :).

Yeah i will have to try and sneak a drive of a proper FD some day, although it might just make me want to buy one more xD
redzed8
Last day of 350z ownership, thought id post a pic of them both together for the last day. Hopefully a skyline r32 will be replacing the 350z. Next mods for the rx7 will be koyorad n flow radiator and maybe some wheels and paint. Rock_Steady
Every time i see an RX7 -which isn't often- i can't help but think that it looks so timeless. It could have come out last year IMO. That ford focus in front of it in the 2nd pic looks more dated for crying out loud.
Jetpilot
Absolutely, for a car thats 25 years old and built in Japan it has aged extremly well. I would love another, but, the age is also the problem for me now, the dreaded (possible) onslaught of tin worm, tired brittle wiring looms etc which is a crying shame, such a pity the Rx8 wasnt a worthy replacement imho of course. Unless there is a real break through in tech and ever increasing emissions targets, i doubt we will see another rotary either.
redzed8
I must admit i got lucky with this one, 30k miles and no rust/rott at all and never been welded on. I do love the shape and i must agree with you guys they dont look quite as old as they are. Still cant get over the sound it makes . I get quite a few smiles per gallon :). Heres a pic before we set out on a little drive to cheddar. The rx7 looks so small compared to the skyline and 1series .

Rock_Steady
it is a shame that you'll get cracked vacuum pipes and shoddy electrics but, early 90s jap cars. My Pulsar is the same. brittle wiring and cracked rubber pipes. A nightmare.

Your rite and to be fair its not a too expensive fix for this car , while my car was being looked at by tim the engine wiring loom including fitting was £300 and all the vaccume lines/ rats nest checked and replaced hoses was less then 100. Alot of the stuff i will attempt myself now if it needs work

redzed8
Noticed the clutch master cylinder was leaking inside the car and was dropping fluid all over the carpet. So bought a new clutch master cylinder and changed it out today, took less then half hour including bleeding it so wasnt too bad.

Next update will be fitting all these parts and then its off to rotary motion on the 27th for more work to get it running perfect.
