zelda
Hi, I'm planning to buy a polisher but have borrowed one off of my dad which he's never used just to get a feel for how good a finish I can get before I go and spend the money. When I powered it up last weekend, it vibrated quite violently.. so I didn't actually end up using it. Is it normal for a polisher to vibrate? I thought the pad just went round and round? Cheers
Andy_Muxlow
It depends on wether it is a dual action polisher or a rotary polisher tbh. If it's a da then it will vibrate due to the dual action. zelda
Think it must be a DA then. It feels pretty uncomfortable to use.. Do you think I will notice a difference in final finish if I opted for just the rotary? Or, would a better quality DA be better?
Ricey
Youll find as the speed gets taken up itll balance out and feel more comfortable. As with most things in life you get what you pay for. An expensive DA will be better balanced etc but will never give the results of an rotary. A rotary however is a dangerous tool in the wrong hands. Youll struggle to strike with a DA.....youll far more easily strike with a rotary (especially on Zed paint which is notoriously thin) Sent from my SM-G925F using Tapatalk
KyleR
An orbital is a dual action, rotary is not orbital and will never called it. I assume your dad's is one of the 2 handed like below? If it is, you'll not get much done with it except applying liquid wax or sealants a bit quicker.
zelda
Yeah, the one I have is like the two handed one pictured. Any recommendations/links for a good polisher? I'm happy to pay for something decent upon recommendation.
ilogikal1
For a starter, the DAS6 is difficult to look past; it's a decent machine at a reasonable price. As always, I'd recommend this with almost everything you'll need for polishing a Z in one kit here; http://www.polishedbliss.co.uk/acatalog/pb-soft-paint-polishing-kit-cat1.html

zelda
Just got in from another manual clean, polish and wax.. Thanks for the links. I'll have a nose tonight. Whichever one I get I'll post back and let you know how I got on.
HEADPHONES
You still need to be careful with an orbital polisher. My friend struck through his 08 civic along the crease on the bonnet. That was with an orange Menzerna pad and SRP! I think flat panels are fine though.
zelda
That has been a bit of a concern of mine. I'm planning to be able to do the larger flat areas and where there are soft curves mainly. Any hard edges will do by hand still.
