So I'm in my 3rd year of owning my 370z, my insurance has gone from 1k in the first year to £800 in the second. I am being quoted £1400 pounds this year by all and sundry. Aviva more than doubled my existing quote from £800 to £1700! I am living in the same part of yorkshire, car is the same, no points no claims I'm one year older and have an extra years no claims. Someone please just explain this to me?

I know there is Adrian Flux who are on this forum.

At the time I got my 350z I wasn't a member of the forum so I got my insurance with 1st central via compare the market. I'm paying £620 for an unmodified car. That comes with legal protection, breakdown cover, no claims protection, key cover and personal injury cover. I live in a medium risk area, I'm 33 and have full no claims ( 16 years total but max they allow is 9). Guessing with a newer car though it may head back up towards the £800 mark. Have you asked them why they have increased it so much?

get quotes from as many companies as you can...it pays off 'shopping around'

I am with Adrian Flux now and very happy with their insurance cover

Used to be with Direct Line in the past and they were ok as well

been with others as well but not worth even mentioning them

The reality is, insurance just keeps going up and whilst its incredibly frustrating as like me you think, another year older without an accident, points etc its "supposed" to get cheaper, there seems a myriad of theories why its getting more expensive, cars are more costly to repair, scams for personal injury claims, cars insurance ratings change etc etc

Personally I am a bit of a an old cynic and think its nothing more than they have you over a barrel, the low risk driver, no points or claims in a year should be rewarded imho, make the ones having the crashes burden the costs.

Yarp, postcode changes have a massive effect even if youre just moving next door. £1400 is heavy, but its not ridiculous if youre under 25 and you have a 370 - Im 38 and paying £900 odd on a 135i in a village where Ive only ever heard of one car getting nicked in 25 years ......... and that was an insurance job

I moved post code and it changed one digit and my insurance went up 15% - car is now parked approximately 100 feet from where it was previously on the street. As they said at the time though, there has to be black and white borders somewhere and I was unfortunate.

Postcodes are maybe the biggest culprit, as above. I also found that job titles have a huge impact, which was a big surprise!

I ran some quotes through a popular meerkat based website on my old 370z and the quote went from £6xx down to £4xx just from changing my job title, and adding my misses. 30% less!

Just run it through confused and the cheapest was £1400 not too bad. Then they phoned me to offer the chance at a cheaper quote and put me through to Adrian Flux. After all was said and done it came down too £1275. Very pleased +1 Adrian Flux!

im paying 475 for my Vauxhall Mokka with 11 years NCB. My highly modified Zed Roadster with no NCB is £350. Go figure?

Same thing. The wife was not happy that the Zed was cheaper than her Zafira. Although its only a weekend car and I have access to other cars which keeps the cost down. Just under 400 for the Zed.

As above, job, location etc contribute more to insurance premiums in some cases than type of car. It seems once all the stats are gathered together that you are less likely to have a zed stolen, or crashed, than a Mokka - so that could be a reason for the price. Then other cars have huge premiums, to insure my Skyline R33 was twice as much as it was the zed.

As per the news report above I posted, some premiums are shooting up if you are a younger driver etc. it doesnt appear to be like for like the comparison to last year even if you live in the same place etc.

Its all down to statistics and ive tried many times to understand them. The people who work for insurance companies dont understand them either whenever ive tried to get them to explain various things to me.

When I got my zed, the cheapest price insurance companies were quoting me was over twice the price they were quoting me for a Nissan GTR or a Lamborghini Gallardo. Both much quicker, faster cars ,and in the Lambo`s case it was worth something like 6 times the amount my zed was. All other details were the same - same ncb, location, job etc. I just assumed it was because statistically zeds were a higher insurance risk.

Same thing when I got my Yamaha R1. I didnt want an R1. I wanted an old Honda Fireblade just to thrash about on. A mate was selling one for £1500 at the time. Insurance companies wouldnt touch me on it and if they did they wanted mega money. However, they would happily insure me on brand new, much quicker, much faster R1 for the pricely sum of £100. So I went out and bought one. Go figure!

In general though I have found insurance does increase every year, even after the usual games your existing insurer will play come renewal time. Its just one of those things. The industry knows you have to have insurance by law and so they can make their own rules up.

I pay more for my Nissan Elgrand than my supercharged 350z with 4 free trackdays, there is something seriously wrong with the industry if thats "justifiable" ;)

Is that with the same company?

Yes, although granted its not their usual remit, more of a specialist company, i called loads of recommended, they were all with £25 of each other roughly.

Yah, I think it all depends on what type of car you are insuring and with what company. I've always had modded cars, and always moved between Adrian Flux or Sky Insurance.

However, when moving to the Nismo Adrian Flux wanted an insane amount of money (I think it was around £900). The guy on the phone was pretty open and said it was just due to the car being unmodified. I am currently insured through Admiral and its £420.

Once I start popping a few mods on there I will no doubt move back to Flux.
