My weekend of rubbishness

Sorry to hear this mate.

When I was reading your first post I was thinking this sounds very familiar. About 10 years ago I was getting periodic pain, worst pain I'd ever felt and in the middle of my back.

Each time I got it it would last about 5 or 6 hours then go and always over a weekend. Laying flat on my back seemed to help the pain but not stop it.

I'd call the GP on the Monday and each time they checked me out they would say it was weight and diet related so I should lose some timber.

Fast forward about a year, I've lost about 5 stone and these bouts of pain are getting much more frequent and longer lasting. I finally have a bout during the week and get an appointment while it's in full swing. The locum takes one look at me and sends me straight for an ultrasound which confirms gall stones and refers me to a specialist.

I get home and think I have private cover so Call them up and make sure the specialist that I'm being referred to is on their list and he was. Got an appointment in 2 days and he wanted to operate a couple of days later, I defer a week as I was in the middle of a major project at work and needed to clear the decks first.

Took a couple of weeks recovery but nothing since.

Sorry for the ramble but wanted to let you know I've been there and the pain is an 11/10 but it will get better with the operation.

Oh and pics of the cute nurse or she doesn't exist

I actually tried to take one earlier but felt a bit creepy/pervy so wimped out

Cheers man, that's good to read and know what to expect. I thought I was feeling better but when the morphine failed it all just kicked straight back in again, so definitely not even close yet. Temps are about 39/38 at the moment, so can't get my temps down yet. Just want to get the op done and dusted. The consultant is literally just starting his round here now so hopefully I'll know more in about 5 mins.

Dan, you will like this story.

A friend of mine fell off a bike or similar and ruptured part of his rectory system. Had an op, was okay for years.

One day he's in agony, goes to A&E and is advised the nurse will need to stick her fingers up his bum and have a feel around.

So he goes in, the nurse starts.. Then he realises she is his best mates girlfriend / wife so he then wips out his phone mid process and texts his friend saying 'you'll never guess what your missus is doing to me right now'

Megalols

Consultant was ace, really nice guy, am probably going to be moved across to private this afternoon. Likely to be in for another three days minimum. I just love how stuff just gets sorted, no faffing, 'ave it.

Might be able to get the op done before I go away to Rome at the end of May, if the infection settles down enough.

TBH - I can't understand why there's so much delay with you here - a friend of mine got rushed in (pretty much same as you), they identified gall bladder issues and within 24hours they had him in the operating theatre

2 weeks home time / rest and about 4 weeks after he was more or less back to normal

Hopefully you'll get it sorted soon and be back to your usual self ;) . I don't know if anyone else has heard this or its an urban myth but gall stones used to be called the "3 F's"...ie Female, Fair and Forty :surrender:, don't think you're any of these though :) .

Definitely not!

Just waiting to arrange a time for the hospital transfer now, no real rush as at least I've got the authorisation now which can be the awkward bit.

Although potentially not as awkward as making phone calls discussing how you're about to get moved to a private room with drugs on demand and proper tasty food, when you're surrounded by older guys who are struggling to get a nurse across just to bring them a commode :lol:

3 days is about right, you will be in pain whenever you move afterwards second day I could make it to the bathroom unaided however they want you to be eating and do a number two before discharging you.....

I found having a number two very difficult, wasn't until day 3 before I could... well I lied to them that I could

Good news about getting transferre, they don't mess around and so much better rooms for recovery

Are there as many foreign language persons in every hospital across the UK? I'm not remotely fussed, but I think I've only spoken to one or two 'English' staff since I've been here, and there were porters. Everyone is friendly apart from grumpy bollocks nurse, do we just have this old fashioned idea that there's only a few non-nationals in the NHS when actually the majority are either EU, non-EU for within one generation of either?

The government is going to need to work damn hard to keep/recruit NHS staff. Maybe it'll be better, maybe they can strike better deals with EU companies to provide UK training in return for more staff? I dunno.

I'm now in the comfier hospital, where I'm being waited on hand and foot: Ice cold water, fancy coffees for my folks have arrived and I have Sky piped to my private room on a Samsung TV. Could swear their morphine is stronger too, pain nearly completely gone but I've still not had a pony for a whole week now. Ah well, well, such is life.

Had to have a third cannula though, last one was very painful on initial flush so I didn't trust that.

have you not had a male nurse bend you over, stick their finger where no finger should ever go and ...... scoop ?

I hope no-one is eating at the moment

I miss my cats :( It's Lexi's 2nd birthday today and I'm missing it. Just want to give her cuddles. :(

Stupid broken body. Oh, I had a read of my notes earlier when I transferred, turns out my gallstone is 16mm in diameter, which seems quite big.

Can't eat anything at all still :( Spoke to the surgeon earlier, he's gonna get me eating soft food asap if possible but not too soon as it can irritate the bile duct.

I'm sweating like a paedo in a playground with this infection, got silly surgical socks on too. Halucinations are getting intense, like I rekember having cinversatiims that simply didn't happen, ever. Unsettling.
