Headlight restoration

Got the demon eyes and sequential indicators done last year but my lenses are terribly faded.

I'm not paying out for new lenses but wouldn't mind paying someone to sort the originals.

The guy that done the demon eyes says he can't fix it but I think he was just being lazy.

I wasn't happy at all with the service from him.

Can anyone offer a cheap solution?

I've tried toothpaste a few times but it's not that great.

Can't afford new ones so any tips are appreciated.

Thanks.

Robert.

The megs kit has a UV sealant in it I believe. I sorted my sons fiesta lights a while back and resealed with Chem guys "jetseal"

You just need to give them a coating in anything with UV protection. Clear coatings a bit OTT. When I did mine last year I used Gtechnic C4 to protect from UV.

There are plenty of threads on this topic:

You should be able to do both lights in under 10-15 minutes (if you are using powertools), it will obviously take a bit longer if your doing it by hand.

DA polisher (or drill with applicator) and metal polish gave a quick cut for me, pristine in not much longer than it takes to mask up the surround. Then 2 layers of a UV sealant like the gtechniq mentioned above.

A bit 2000 or 3000 grit sandpaper if really bad, followed by a DA polisher or foam polish pad on a drill bit with a nice dollop of cutting compound to Polish them back up.

Mine were faded and compound worked a treat, meguiars is a good brand and easily obtainable. Halfords sell it for £12 a bottle. Ebay will offer you drill bit Polish pads as well for £5 or so UK domestic.

Not to mention you can use the rest of the compound on any minor scratches you have on your paintwork.

Edit: you can use a microfiber cloth with the compound to restore a clear surface. I was scared at first taking sandpaper to cars. Especially when your done and it's all white and scuffed up. But it polishes up easy enough. At least with plastic you don't run the risk of burning through clear coat like paint!

As others said a sealing agent will help protect them, but it's not hard to apply some elbow grease once in a while to remove the oxidisation if you don't. I haven't.

Thanks for the replies.

I think they may be going on the inside as well.

:(

It can look like that with the mirrored surface. You can't be certain until you clear up the outside.

This. Its decieving - it can look like the inside of the lens is going hazy but 9 times out of 10 it's still the outside. It's weird.
