PH11TED
Repairs cost me nothing, I bought it from stratstone jaguar and it brought on em light and went into limp mode 3 hours after I had it so it went back the next day, they had it 3 days while I drove round in a 2.2 sport r XE courtesy car and gave it me back, then within a week it happened again and they gave me a diesel XE courtesy car, a diesel in exchange for a 500bhp monster was their biggest mistake, and then they couldn't find anything wrong with it. My poor Mrs sat inside it guarding it one evening while I went in ranting that it was ticking over outside in limp mode and I refused to turn it off until they drove it because as soon as you shut it off it would reset itself and pretend nothing had ever happened. That was the final straw, they admitted it had a fault but still didn't know what was wrong with it. So after a long hard think I asked for my money back which they eventually refunded and I went and bought some quality Japanese plastic to replace my quality British leather. Strudul
Wow, that sucks. Sounds like you got a lemon.
Alpinaman
I must be mistaken...I don't go on either of the forums mentioned It's unusual that the Jag dealer didn't fix the car.. Every time the EML illuminates a fault is stored, even historic faults so they knew it had been on even if they light was off..so they defiantly knew something was going on. The 5.0 isn't a complex engine, but they can stretch the timing chain, it's rare and a pig of a job.. So if that had happened they may have decided to cut their losses
Richf
My first post on here and it's xkr related. Just sold a 2010 xkr 5.0l and bought a 370 and find myself chasing more power instantly, the Jag was awesome and the noise from the milteks, well you don't need to remove any sound deadening to hear it. Loving the Z but at 180bhp down on the xkr I'm tempted to get a supercharger kit for it. Anyway my name's Phil and I'm a jagaholic. I went from a Supercharged Zed to the XF-R and honestly the Z feels gutless compared to it as even supercharged the zed was 100ft lbs down on the Jag and thats what you feel
PH11TED
Timing chain tensioners wear, very rarely but they do wear and I explained to stratstones workshop manager that after 30 odd years in the motor trade he wasn't going to pull the wool over my eyes,he reckoned there were 2 historical fault codes stored. 1 was a loss of communication from the cruise control and the other was equally irrelevant but I can't remember what it was. I mentioned the fact that I think the cam sensors are saying hang on something's not right here, as the chain bounces around its worn tensioner and he said no no no I've never heard of a tensioner wearing on this engine your getting confused with the older 4.0l and 4.2l. no mate Google it !!! Supercharger is not money well spent then is it ? Perhaps I just need to get over the jag's power and get on with life back in a jap, I ran supras for years. Oh and forums, what about lude generation the prelude forum, or maybe your from south Wales and seen the plate, PH11 TED ? Alpinaman
Nope I just can't place it at all... I'm probably getting mixed up, it's my age ya see lol Yea, chains and tensioner replacement are rare but they do go, my friend is a specialist and he has done half a dozen or more.. Cam variators also can get sticky, usually on low milers that ain't had the oil changed. The tarnish on the variator body causes the EML to pop on Anyway, if the dealer wasn't interested then you did the best thing...👠
