Digsy
JIC.. how much and who from pls? is it slightly diff style or exactly same? You could try one of our own Y pipes normally £130 could let you have one that has only been on a car for 100miles for £100. The flexi joints sit higher than the Nismo so give an extra 20mm of clearance. Thx Phil.. its a good offer.. i think il take u up on it. ..Why was it taken off the car after only 100miles? Customer changed his mind and went for a different setup within a couple of days. On a sort of related point Phil, does your new exhaust sit lower than say a NISMO for clearance purposes? Slightly more clearance than the Nismo but not much in it.

N15MNO-Daron
hiya.. another update.. contacted Surrey Rolling Road who then directed me to Abbey Motorsport in Surrey. These guys said theyre 99% sure they can fix the prob.. they fitted loads of kinetix cats to Z's recently and said they never fit perfectly, need to be cut and re fitted as they put too much pressure on the Y pipe flexi parts which then crack with time. At same time theyll test my cat sensors to make sure theyre functioning correctly. Im gona use your new Y pipe phil and let them cut and re fit my kinetix cats.. (i decided that i will keep them but this is last attempt to fix it otherwise back to stock cats.. fingers crossed this is the solution). Mathys
Sounds like a good plan! Really hope this will sort it for u.
Nimrod
unfortunately the problem is not the Y pipe persay...its the Kinetix cats. I can't even tell you how many people here in the US have had a failure with that exact setup. Seems only a few cats/test pipes work out well in the long term with aftermarket Y pipes The exact same problem happened with my NISMO Y pipe which I bought as part of a complete cat back exhaust through Z1 Auto. Although I have received confirmation from Adam that a replacement will be made under warranty I'm still waiting for the replacement FOUR MONTHS LATER!!! Have since removed the Kinetix hi-flows in favour of a set of ss braced sport cats from Envy.

davej
I've been reading this thread with interest, as i'd love to make mine a bit noisier, cos i'd been thinking about getting some hi-flow cats to make my fujitubo a bit fruitier. but this has made me stop and think, cos the last thing i want to do is go down this road so is this an isolated or is there a better option? dave

If you drop the clutch at high revs the engine torge can cause the n/s flexi joint to fail if you have un-braced hi-flow cats. Normal driving (is there such a thing with Z owners?) should be OK but personally I would recommend using braced cats otherwise it's a long section of unsupported exhaust which will flex through engine torque and suspension movement and the weakest link is the flexi-joints. Question for the exhaust guru's. Can the failed flexi joints in the NISMO Y pipe be cut out and new, more robust flexi-joints be welded in place or is it not worth the time, effort or money? Have since removed the Kinetix hi-flows in favour of a set of ss braced sport cats from Envy. The problem, as I have gone over with you numerous times, is no one at Nissan knew how to handle such an issue, as they had claimed it had never happened before. This is why I even offered to put you in touch directly with the dealership that supplies us, lest you think I was making something up. He would be happy to tell you how often I have bugged him about your situation. I myself have never had to replace any NISMO item under warranty and had no idea what was involved either. I have read several threads on various message boards where the flex section failed internally, and all were mated to Kinetix cats or Crawford cats, so I knew it had happened, but yours was the first intance of it occuring to a product we supplied (we don't, nor would sell Kinetix anything, nor do we sell Crawford products (who's quality is lightyears ahead of Kinetix) ). We have been at the mercy of the local dealership, which is who supplies these exhausts to us, and who all warranty claims go through. Apparantly NISMO has now ackowledged there is a problem and has "revised" the Y pipe with some sort of support brace. I have no idea what that means, or what it looks like, or whether or not it will work or not, but according to the gentleman I deal with at the parts desk, he is supposed to be receiving these newer versions in the next few days. Anytime any such problem arises, it is not our intention to drag things out, but there are times where unfortunately, we are in the middle the same as the customer. Once in, we can then make arrangements to get it to you.
