Moved in today!

Great news! i hope you enjoy your new home for many years to come.

One final tip, if you do want to change something like the bathroom etc I'd suggest living with it for a while as you will figure out what does and doesn't work with its current configuration

We finally exchanged yesterday, three stressful months after having our offer accepted. Can't wait to get the keys on 5th June. Always wanted to live in somewhere historic like this but never imagined it would actually happen. :)

whats with everyone moving in immediately after buying a property? we've had the keys to our new place for over 5 weeks now, and we're still at least a month away from moving in... or is it just us?

admittedly paying two mortgages isn't much fun but we have done a lot of decorating in that time, we're now waiting for sofas and furniture to arrive, then we might be in a position to move in!

Sounds nice and relaxed!

We had no option to move into our new build when it was 90% complete. The council were threatening to forcibly remove the caravans we were living in on site!

We're not moving in straight away - got to give two months notice on our current place so will move over in stages.

Best way to do it IMO. When we bought our current place we lived in her apartment for a couple of months while we completed some work and made it habitibal then rented out the apartment.

If we were to move I think I'd sell first and rent somewhere while we look for a new place. Less stress of being in the middle of a chain and can move in over a period of time or just get any work done before moving stuff in.

We moved in 2 hours after picking up keys

Clearly not as patient as you guys! Doing some work in the house, while camping it out!

Bed and sofa are still around 4 weeks till delivery so we got a couple of table chairs to relax on....

We completed a few weeks ago, sorted out broadband within a week, got painter decorators in this week, carpet fitters next week, electrician same time, but have now booked a removal van :)

Cannot wait to move in now, never thought we could ever afford to live somewhere this nice, 2% mortgages.... You have to love them. This is the view within 60 seconds of walking out of the front door :)

No joy today then?

Oh, Yeah we exchanged today! Heart dropped when they sent a completion statement asking for £7500! Dopey solicitor had put me down as paying higher rate SDLT, got that sorted & exchanged this morning! Ready to move in Wednesday :yahoo:

Lol. Try having to pay £20k!

We moved in last weekend. Got the keys on Friday 5th, cleaned whole house. So much anti bacterial stuff lol. Then moved as much as we could asap. Will do the rest after our wedding, which is in 2 weeks. Hence why the rush to get out.

Moved out of rented back in October to help save towards house and wedding costs.

Can have risks though if the property market suddenly crashes or something. I did something similar though when I moved last as I knew there was no way I could possibly move all my cars / motorbikes / toys in one go. What I did was buy my new property, then spend a few months decorating and moving all my stuff over before selling my old house.

It was good in that it allowed me to get the new place ready first, but was bad in that my old house then took 6 months or more to sell. So I ended up paying 2 mortgages for 6 months and finally letting my old house go for well below what I should have had. Not only that, the hassle of getting a 2nd mortgage to buy the new house was a nightmare. Even though the repayments on both mortgages was well below what I was allowed, and the total amount also was below what I was allowed, the mortgage companies just didnt like someone having 2 mortgages. It took me ages of searching and involving a specialist financial adviser before I managed to get one.

Great points Rabbit, when we bought this place we were able to afford both mortgages no issue and you're correct the way prices seem to be in this area we may find that we can't afford the property type we want due to rapid house prices.

That's a real risk here as houses can sell within a day, particularly the style we would want to 'upgrade' to. That's why I'm contemplating extending here, only downside is we are a semi but we can move the 'living' facilities to the other side if that makes sense.

Our fee was around £20k but that was 5 years ago. Dred to think what it would be now if we moved, considering many houses round here have almost doubled in price since we moved in.

It should actually be cheaper than five years ago, providing that'll be your only property & not a second one.

You no longer pay stamp duty on the first £125,000, 2% between £125,000 & £250,000 & then 5% for the amount over £250,000

  • 2 months later...

Well turns out for our first home, we have a neighbour that's an Ahole! Or maybe I'm the Ahole and they're just a little petty...

Anyway, i imagine they're taking issue with me turning in the shared driveway and reversing onto my drive as at the point at which i just go up to they've placed a chair

It's an odd layout as where their fiesta is parked anyway is next to the other neighbours garage.

Rising above it, but also fighting the urge to retaliate with pettiness

And this is why I never want a shared driveway

TBH I'd do yourself a favour in the long run and go and have a civil chat with them. Take a bottle of wine, start normal small talk, bring it up in casual conversation but laugh it off. Trust me, you do not want this to get any worse this early on, it's not worth. Bite your tongue, be nicey-nicey, then go home and call the guy a c*nt under your breath.

My guess is they're getting really territorial over you driving into "their" land. Especially in a sports car, my guess is if you were 65 in a Micra they wouldn't give a toss.
