GodISmE
I have a chance to buy a set of Avon ZZR for the rear (5mm thread left) but there is no matching size for the front. I can get a set of new r888 which have the same amount of thread. I know that ZZR are quite hard, will the Toyos be a good match for them? Ekona
Don't mix tyres, especially when using trackday specials as you're playing with much finer margins at the limits (and it you're not running them to the limits, there's no point in them ). With such wide wheels, I'd suggest you're limited to running either the 888Rs all round or looking at the MPSC2s.
Jetpilot
I run mixed track tyres at the moment for the same reason op, i have no issues, the zzr's are comparable to the 888's in grip levels, you will be fine
Ekona
If you're running GG 888s, then they're nowhere near alike in compound. Have you ever tried a matching set of either?
GodISmE
Isn't GG the hard compound? How different are they then?
andy james
Isn't GG the hard compound? How different are they then? GG is medium compound on the 888r. I will be fitting R888R this season as they are now road legal
GodISmE
Which is the hardest compound for 888? Do those new r888r come in that compound?
andy james
Which is the hardest compound for 888? Do those new r888r come in that compound? I'm pretty sure you can only get GG in the sizes I have on my wheels. I run a square set up using 245/40/18s all round as toyo don't make Oem Z sizes in the r888r
Jetpilot
Gg is just the designation for their "track compound", they used to do an sg compound which was softer but not sure if the r888r are available in sg.
GodISmE
I have a track car with 9'5 and 10'5 inch wheels so 255/265 and 275/285 would be ideal. The new Federal 595 RSRR have those sizes now but they will be slightly slower. It's a shame ZZR only have 2 sizes for 18" rims! Ekona
In fairness, the ZZRs are aimed primarily at lighter cars, like Caterhams etc. It's a miracle they bother to make any 18"s at all!
