kbad
Hi guys and gals - I have a weird whooshing noise (almost a whistle) quite low noise almost imperceptible when I start driving the car from cold , this scenario (noise) persists for about 3 - 4 minutes then totally disappears. Always hear the sound when starting the popemobile from cold. Has any other HR or DE owners experienced this ? I ruled out 1) door/window seals as the noise stops after a coupe of mins. 2)Gearbox -noise stops after couple of mins and I just changed a bearing last month 3) Just changed OEM DMF, Clutch AND csc last month Any Thoughts/Ideas/Comments
Randy_Baton
Belts or Pulleys? Have you changed the belts recently?
kbad
Alloo , thanks for the update yes Mitz@couguarstore changed these last year at the P3 service Edited February 3, 2017 by kbad
brillomaster
id say belts possibly need tightening... does the sound change pitch at all, either with engine revs or roadspeed?
kbad
yes the pitch increases with revs
RobPhoboS
Actually I've had a similar-ish sound when it's been very cold recently. I've no idea what it is either and it's been random not consistent.
kbad
yes the sound is really random and yes when cold , very annoying
TT350
Maybe exhaust? As it heats and expands slightly the noise would go away.
Exec
I had a rattling noise from cold which was a jap speed k1 exhaust touching the w brace. It went away once it got hot. Poorly made exhausts I guess.
TT350
My old Primera GT had a very slight blow that sounded like a loud woosh. It'd go away when hot. Obviously it's something that reacts to heat. Loose manifold. My 350Z had a loose turbo manifold and that wooshed too.
RobPhoboS
My one hasn't done it this last week but then again I had the injectors out last weekend, so everything is back on tight again. (actually they've been in and out a few times the last 3 weeks )
Randy_Baton
Alloo , thanks for the update yes Mitz@couguarstore changed these last year at the P3 service yes the pitch increases with revs Sounds to me like the belts need tightening. New belts stretch so need to be re-tightened, its likely to be the aux belt as it has to work harder in the winter. If you can fit your arms down the back of the radiator its a 5 minute job, if not you need to get underneath the car and do it so it'll probably take 30 minutes.
bytespc
I had exactly what you described and it was a blown VVT Solonoid so the VVT didn't work properly, replaced and never had it since.
Aashenfox
I also had similar symptoms, and it was some bearing or other in the belt system, sorry I can't be more specific than that. Mine was worse when cold, but always there, slightly. Edited February 4, 2017 by Aashenfox
BigPoch
I have the exact same thing, whine/whistling sound when starting the car in the morning and goes away after 10 minutes same as my notchy 2nd gear... no clue what the hell it is, ive read that it might be gearbox bearing, differential or even driveshaft and now here that the belts need tightening lol. People have even changed their gearboxes for this reason...
Randy_Baton
Well start with the belts, its a 5 min job to tighten them (if you can get your hands down the back of the radiator)
