Ebized
As we are now in 2017 I've started a new thread - latest news on who will replace Rosberg does seem to make Bottas the likely successor, given that Massa has agreed to do another season with Williams: http://www.motorspor...-is-done-862197

marzman
Looking forward to this year. I've got tickets for Silverstone, and likely going to the Montreal GP too.
Jetpilot
I must be confused about what retiring means, I like Massa and was very moved watching the Brazil Gp but surely his future was discussed at length, its not like a Rosberg boom I am done. Seems a bit farcical if you ask me, whens Button coming back, 2nd or 3rd race? Edited January 1, 2017 by Jetpilot

Why on earth would C4 want the snorefest that is Bahrain over the season opener of Australia?! That's bonkers. Unless Sky tell them what they can and cannot have, of course. brillomaster
well Bahrain is at a slightly more suitable time for European audiences... I wouldn't watch the Australian grand prix live unless I lived in Australia!
Ekona
Ah, that's a very good point actually. That said, I always watch the Oz one, it's one of the highlights of the calendar. Doesn't start that early, and besides it's a weekend so you then have the rest of the day to do actual stuff
JetSet
I have a theory about Rosberg's retirement...HE WILL BE BACK NEXT YEAR WITH FERRARI. You may well be not that far off the mark. I can think of 3 world champions who've come back , Alan Jones, Lauda and Schumacher. James Hunt came very close to coming back and Jackie Stewart gave it considerable thought. I wouldn't expect Rosberg back by 2018 though, it'll take him a couple of years to get bored . Pete

JetSet
Niki Lauda needed the money for his airline, "Lauda Air" but I can't imagine that Schumacher needed the money. James Hunt actually got as far as testing a Williams when he was 42 (and broke!), he was off the pace but felt that once he got into "condition" he would be competitive. What he meant by that is hard to grasp as he was well known for his smoking, drinking and drug taking . As far as Sir Jackie Stewart is concerned he too tested out a number of F1 cars but he was from a different era and self preservation was his main priority. He was also an ambassador for Ford and his salary was rumored to be 70k per annum, a lot of money in the 70's Pete

He could drive anything F1/F2, saloons, won the Indy 500 and was leading the RAC rally, yeah he was good. Mind you, JYS may not have been the fastest but he was one of the cleverest and as you say was the first one to sell his image. I once stood next to JYS and my word was he diminutive. Keyser
I don't care if Jackie Stewart is the greatest driver in the world ever, he's still a c***. Come on Dan tell us how you really feel about the man and stop sitting on the fence Speaking of "older" race drivers I was watching some clips of the Le Mans 24 Hour from years ago, spectacular stuff so much more dangerous than today but exciting to watch all the same! If you have half an hour this is quite good
Beavis
I don't care if Jackie Stewart is the greatest driver in the world ever, he's still a c***. I have to agree. He is one of these guys that says nothing when Lewis is partying and winning everything but as soon as he fails he blames is party lifestyle! Ekona
I particularly like the way he manages to squeeze in the phrase "When I won the world championship..." into nearly every single sentence he says. :boxing:
The G Man
Tut, tut, such hate for a lovely man, caring father and husband, who also won 3 world championships. Hamilton will never be knighted, due to his decadent lifestyle. If I'd won 3 World championships, I'd have cards printed up to present to everyone I met . Love his tartan trews and bunnet , such style. A true gent who was a genuine friend of Clark and Hill amongst others. However, he's from an era when it was much harder to win one, never mind three world championships. Back on topic, Verstappen will take a lot of beating this year , IMO.
