Terryz350
I've had my 350z 2008 for about 4 months Love the car and will be keeping it I have a couple of small issues that I think someone on the forum will be able to answer my questions on - so please help if you can I have an exhaust rattle at between 1000 and 1500 revs (low revs) at the front of the car I have a scorpion exhaust fitted I'm thinking exhaust heat shield vibrating when the engine is under strain - wrong gear etc ??? Or is there a more common fault with the 350z Many thanks Terry
Irn Bru
Heat shields went on my cats, buzzy rattling sound, but I decatted soon after it started so wasn't bothered. It will most likely be them.
Terryz350
Can they be removed ?? If this is the issue Or do we need to repair I would think heat shields are there for a reason Terry
Irn Bru
Yeah can be removed and yea there for a reason, although anyone that's decatted (decats don't come with heat shields) will tell you it make no difference to the heat in the car, having said that, I suspect cats do get a lot hotter than decat pipes to do their job. Your local garage / mechanic should be able to clamp the shields to stop the buzzing / rattle.
Rook
As said, it probably is the cats' heat shields, but even if you secure them, they'll just continue to wear and likely start rattling again. There's no harm in cutting them off.
Olly350z
Either the cat heatshields or the ones on thr manifolds. You can remove the cat ones easily enough but the latter is a bastard to do
