Keyser
Evening OK so moving onto part 1 of the fuel system Started off with this - I think I can do better To start with look at the 2 outlet pipes They are touching the frame - that's just bad design, add that to braided line and it just rubs the paint off - poor show I also want to use proper fittings which requires hard line adapters to be fitted Yup that's not happening so................ removed the bit that is in the way Not much to it really Then take 2 bits of angle iron that you have laying about trench weld them clean em up reinforce the joint (overkill) Shape and put in the hole weld and clean up some paint to finish Fit hard line adapters using the Christmas presents from the long suffering Mrs Keyser Thanks Hun Jerry rig a pressure test system All is right - now to fit it ............ Keyser
Hello anyone still keeping an eye on me, few more bits done so thought I'd bring you up to speed, I mentioned the primer didn't take on the dash it came off like this - to be fair it was rather old primer anyway to be sure I started again It all went well so gave it a top coat and we fitted it back in the Radical and wired it all up few close ups Hope you like it (Andybp please note pics in focus ) More soon ............................
Keyser
Moving swiftly on to the second bit of the fuel system, This is the sort of piping I'm replacing as it needs it. New connectors New hose I'm trying this push on pipe, supposed to be the dogs so I thought I would see for myself First pipe made up Seems OK to me looks good and the reinforcement is inside so it doesn't wear things like externally braided line does (and it's lighter ) so moving on Its a low pressure circuit that feeds back into the tank which has a built in swirl pot this in turn goes through the high pressure circuit that will feed the fuel rail then back to the tank via a pressure regulator. In the old system it went around the outside and was a tight fit between the roll cage and radiator so I have fed it into 2 bulk head connectors (feed and return) in the engine bay ready to hook up to the fuel rail/injectors I think if nothing else it looks a lot better than before as in - More soon ..................... Keyser
OMG well that was a bit of a shock!!!! The story ........................ I did a deal with Sean at Big CC to trade in some of the bits from my old Radical engine, mainly the crank and rods as Radical fit a 1500cc stroked crank and better rods to their engine builds, now I have the original build sheet for my Radical stating 1500cc engine and it has 1500 stamped on the block the same as RPE (Radical Performance Engineering) do on their engines as well as having an RPE labelled cam cover. Anyway I took the old engine up to Sean today, in bits as we had stripped it to see what the 3rd gear problem was and he said don't bother putting it back together as I will only strip it for the crank. He takes one look at it and says ....... "I thought you said it was a 1500" Yup to his trained eye he spotted straight away that it was a standard Busa 1300cc crank He even got his 1500c crank out and laid it next to mine to prove it, He then pulled the cam cover and had a good look round the engine, we discovered it is either a standard Busa 1300 with a ported head and 1500 stamped on it, or, more likely the original engine blew and they took a standard 1300cc engine and put the 1500cc block on it along with the ancils and crank cover! So I'm upset as it's now not worth what we had agreed as trade in and Sean is annoyed as he doesn’t have a 1500 crank for his new race engine build - Not a good day all round. They say every cloud has a silver lining though and Lyn (Mechanic at Big cc) pointed one out he said ........................... "At least when you get the new engine fitted and running you’re really REALLY going to notice the difference" So I always thought the Radical was quick but lacking in straight line pulling power it seems this one was slower than it was supposed to be and was running basically a standard Busa engine producing maybe 140HP at the rear wheels and being as we are looking for over 300 from the new build it may be a bit scarier than expected More Soon ..............................
