Alpinaman
Had the car a few weeks now and got a few miles under the belt..About 400 i would say... Car has developed a funny noise/feel on the clutch pedal...Its intermittent but can hear a grating noise thats in tune with a tapping/vibrating under foot when the clutch is depresssed.. Like i say,its not there all the time, but when it is it feels awful. Likely to be dual mass flywheel or release bearing ?? Anything else ?? Not great at 7900 miles

ZMANALEX
HR then, Sounds like your CSC (concentric slave cyl) may be on its way out. Not a cheap fix as the gearbox has to be removed to replace the fly/clutch and CSC.
Alpinaman
Hmmm... Why would the bearing be making an intermittent noise? Would the tap, rap, tap underfoot be consistent with CSC going faulty...?
Ricey
Hmmm... Why would the bearing be making an intermittent noise? Would the tap, rap, tap underfoot be consistent with CSC going faulty...? Basically the box is coming off regardless.....just hope its the CSC and nothing else. That said you might as well inspect the clutch and DMF whilst its off and make the decision. Alpinaman
It's under warranty... It's going back to supplying garage on Friday.. Gearbox out and inspect I suspect
Tomh94
This thread scares me a bit as I also have that problem and have just had my clutch and dmf replaced. Don't tell me the box has to come off again 😩 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Alpinaman
I havent got my car back as yet... I dropped it off on Friday... I did call today and the mechanics said that they are waiting for a CSC as they think thats the problem.. I think it needs a dual mass flywheel too. I will see what the next couple of days bring,if im not getting any further then im going to reject the car totally and ask for my money back. I had it around 21 days and have done around 200 miles in it,90 going forward and back to the dealer so im within that 30 day window where i can negotiate the return of the car.. Not great at sub 8000 miles..
Richf
a bit of noise and vibration from the dmf is not uncommon and pretty much a feature ime
ZMANALEX
If they are replacing the CSC, ask them to fit an aftermarket uprated one or you may well have the same problem again within a few thousand miles. You may have to pay a contribution towards this upgrade, however well worth the financial outlay.
Alpinaman
I will let them fit what they want too..... That way the part is within warranty and (if) any further problems arise then it can go back again. Richf..... I agree, but this is a little more than dual mass noise... You can feel it in the pedal as you depress,a rough bearing feel and rumbling noise.. Its enough to ruin the feeling of the car.. I have driven and owned many cars that have DMF's fitted and they dont have any detrimental noise or feel unless something is wrong. Looking at the net and seeing that many people have complained of feel and noise on the 370z and being told "its normal",well in my reasoning there is no reason for a DMF to be out of balance at all... Unless the OEM DMF is inherently bad in design, which again i dont think is great... I can also accept that there maybe some pedal feel deterioration over time and miles..... But not at 7900 miles, thats unacceptable to me.
Tomh94
I was experiencing all of these problems, including judder when pulling away. I had my clutch and flywheel replaced with an aftermarket kit a month or two ago and still have all the problems except clutch judder. I feel like you that it is spoiling the experience of the car, and would be relieved to know if there actually was something wrong, piece of mind I guess. The oem CSC has a habit of failing without any warning leaving you totally stranded, however it is your shout and I am only providing informed advice which you can either take or leave. Alpinaman
I know what you mean..... And normally i would fit anything to make my like easier,so i would go aftermarket/upgraded.. But in the position i am in,i have to play ball because at any given time they could blame any further failures on something i "asked" to be fitted.. Bit of a catch 22,but with dealing with the trade for more than 30 years and i know the dealer will use any excuse to get out of paying or admitting liabilty... Tomh94
Hi Tom... Aftermarket but still dual mass or single flywheel conversion ? Still dual mass dude, it was the exedy kit. The garage bought it and I just dropped off my car so unfortunately I didn't get to look it over. I don't have what sounds like the usual problem of clutch pedal staying depressed when accelerating though. Alot of people say that's the most common fault of the csc. Alpinaman
Mine feels like the clutch diaphragm has a finger damaged, but the rumbling and vibration is intermittent whereas i would expect a consistent noise if the pressure plate was damaged in some way... Time will tell i guess. It is a bit worrying that you have fitted all new and you are still getting issues..
Tomh94
That's what the mechanic said about mine, a few fingers were a bit bent but the flywheel was fine. I came to the conclusion that it was just a very rough drivetrain, as I do get some awful noises when the car is warm. However I am now wondering if the csc could be at fault also. Alpinaman
Quick update.. Car still not back... Garage had it 11 days now... After much arguing and disagreement, they have fitted a CSC only are ar sending to a NIssan dealer for a full report.. The dual mass and the actual clutch was checked at a transmission specialist and at Nissan once removed and neither could "see" anything physically wrong.. I think i will be going to collect the car tommorrow, and if the pedal is exactly how it was when i dropped it off then i will reject the car, irrelevant of any report..
