sl114
Chris - i know what you mean, its just for now and the sports car will be coming back again soon, i just dont want to stretch myself with everything too soon and having a cheaper car for around town is a better option right now. Thats called wisdom! I know mate, i have the rest of my life to get a sports car again and if i do this properly, i will get what i want without worries in a few years or less. sl114
really? I love it, on its own its horrible, but with black stripes, black roof, side mirrors, aero kit, painted arches and black alloys, it looks awesome
sl114
This this but with black volks or similar and coloured arches
Andy
If you're going black rims, i'd go for the Mini Worx's rims. Nice double 4 spoke with polished face
Ebized
This this but with black volks or similar and coloured arches Having enjoyed a ZED, in 5 minutes of Mini ownership you'll be aching for the thrills of the ZED , but yes, we all have to make compromises. If I had to rely on a cheap town run-about for a while I'd go for a Suzuki Swift Sport (it comes with the stripes etc if that's your thing) and then use/save the £k's you'll otherwise have to spend on a Mini and the bits you are thinking of adding. I am not sure that with all the Minis now appearing the present relatively good residuals will remain a few years on - we shall see. I now

Stew
Would the arches be colour coded to the white paint or the black same as the roof and wing mirrors? Don't know why but I'm thinking gloss black arches could be sweet!

MarkW
My gf bought a Cooper S last October. Its almost a mirror image of the one you want, black with silver viper stripes, fogs and dark tints. Its four years old but like new inside and out. I think it looks and drives great. We bought privately and got a good deal but it has developed a couple of niggling faults.... 1) The rear wash doesnt work, though a £3 part bought this week should fix that, 2) there is a creaking noise when you turn the steering wheel when when the car is stationary - sterring rack? 3) Most annoyingly - the boot release has stopped working so you cant get into the boot. (there is an emergency release under the back seat) Dont think the mpg is great either, but she doesnt do that many miles so not really a problem. And theyre NOT gay either
sl114
Cheers for that Mark, i have heard that the S drinks like a thirsty whore, but the cooper is ok.
MarkW
Cheers for that Mark, i have heard that the S drinks like a thirsty whore, but the cooper is ok. I'd still go for the thirsty whore if you could A couple of years ago a previous gf also bought a Cooper S after we test drove both back to back. There did seem a big difference in performance. Plus the works kit on an S gives you a much bigger increase than on the cooper if you ever think of getting it.

Also agree with the comment that in urban situations an MCS is loads more fun than a Zed. I'd have one of each if I could - oh, and the Works kit of course! MrLizard
sl114:- My friend had a cooper, then a works cooper s, both were brilliant little cars, the standard cooper can handle like a go kart when you get used to it... works s was a hard ride, but i like the suspension to feedback as long as its not 'too' silly. Also you mentioned your misses lived in coventry? (or am i making that up) the sytner have a fairly decent range 2nd hand there for test drives etc and if you go to a main dealers the cov one has got some good feedback, I couldnt tell whether or not the photo was the one in cov or not... Good luck either way. And just in case you need it, the sportscar specialist in birmingham i drove past the other day has some nice corvettes etc.. nice silver z06
sl114
To bring this back, does anyone know if you can chip a mini one to get up to the performance of a cooper? Im sure i read it in EVO but not sure what it would involve or if it is true. This way, we get a cheaper car, cheaper insurance and cheaper tax, winners all round! Cool Hand Luke
AMD One Click will give your Mini One the same power as a Cooper (exactly the same engine anyway) and let you switch between standard and non standard really easily. I think if you drive the Cooper then the Cooper S you will be impressed with the difference - more power, much better gearbox, addictive whine of the supercharger, and it pops and crackles on the overrun What you want is a post July 04 model if going for the S as it had a mild facelift - new lights front & rear, different grill surrounds, new 3-piece dash (instead of 5 piece to apparently cure rattles), 3 spoke steering wheel, different shaped armrests on the door cards, digital speedo reading on computer, etc. Mechanically the engine saw some changes which released a few BHP taking it up to 171bhp, the standard exhaust now popped n farted the gear box was new with shorter ratios, and in jan 2005 you u could add a LSD for the first time. If you need any more info just give me a shout.
