SeeNoWeevil
About 1500rpm I can hear a bit of a rattle from underneath when the windows are open and driving alongside a wall. Nissan said it was the heat-shield, which they adjusted but said it will need replacing if the noise comes back. which it did a few days later. Is replacement the best option? Car has stock cats and an Invidia system. What sort of price should I expect? Thanks chaps
ZMANALEX
Just remove it:
Jp606
Can the cat heat shields be removed with no implications? I've got steel cable ties on mine at the moment to stop it rattling
SeeNoWeevil
I'm waiting for them to tell me they're all part of the cat or that I need to replace the whole exhaust system and have a replacement floorplan welded in
KyleR
I find that when the heats shields start to rattle Nissan suggest buying a whole new car!
SeeNoWeevil
I'll consider removing them. Can they be purchased separately though? Expensive? I'm not actually sure what's wrong with them, they didn't say. Corroded I guess.
gillywig2
I've just put a large jubilee clip around mine.
SHEZZA
The heat shields were corroded on my old cats and rattled. I could of just removed them, but found it the perfect excuse to get some new berk high flow cats. Oh and a invidia Gemini exhaust ! Haha
BulletMagnet
Removed mine completely, running an Invidia Gemini. If heat is a worry still, just get some exhaust heat wrap.
kbad
I removed mine and now rattle free with new cobra catback system sounding lovely
SeeNoWeevil
I'm tempted by some HFCs but I can't be dealing with engine management lights coming on.
SeeNoWeevil
Heatshield removed, and the noise remains. Brilliant. Thanks Nissan.
ZMANALEX
There are 3 heat shields. 1 on each cat and 1 above the rear silencer.
SeeNoWeevil
It's only really audible once the car has fully warmed up. I'm starting to even second guess myself now. Odd car noises are enough to drive a man insane.
andybp
As Alex said which heat shield is it ? the one above the backbox or on the cats The rear one corrodes around the studs that fix it to the floor below the boot just stuck some washers on above the nuts on mine been ok since

The rear shield seems solid to me, no movement or obvious corrosion. Went back to Nissan this evening and took one of the mechanics out. He could hear the noise, which is something. Booked in again next week. I'm not particularly hopeful. If anyone knows of anyone in Devon who knows the first thing about 350's I'd love to hear it. SeeNoWeevil
Removing the heat shield didn't fix the noise. Picked the car up after a third attempt to fix the issue, this time they thought it was stones on sitting on the cross-member Needless to say, it didn't fix it. I wouldn't mind them telling me it's all in my head, but 2 different mechanics now have been out with me and confirmed they can hear it!! ZMANALEX
Bring it to me and guaranteed that I will tell what your rattle is within 30 seconds By the way I only charge by the hour and not by the second. Where are you based?
