Man woes and moaning...

So during the weekend I helped out a neighbour and had the chance for most of the evening to drive a 2007 4.2 Jag XKR. I nearly bought one last year and was in fairly serious condition to buy one... however a recent redundancy survival and a loan to curb some debt (thank god lol) has seen me just hang on to the Z.

Driving the thing is wonderful. Its gettin on a bit now but still looks the part. The interior trim doesnt always feel as a 75k car maybe should be but its still a lovely comfy place to be. I can't believe something with 20's and 30/35 profile tyres rides so well where as the 18incher 45s on the Z are harsh and bumpy as hell. I'm gonna guess the suspension is the issue. The Zs prob gonna be tighter round corners but trust me the XKR aint that bad and jeez does it grip!

The main clincher for me is the lack of an annoying day to day akward clutch. The auto is nice and smooth (if not the quickest) and if you want to play just tap that left paddle and it bolts into the distance. It makes a great sound, especially as you just pull away with a deep grumble. Practicality wise the boots bigger and due to the sleek quarter windows theres barely any blind spot over your shoulder. Also the fact that as you sit there just cruising along your aware of what the size and look of the body is like and that it looks damn good and that makes you feel good. Its a special feeling car despite gettin old. It annoys me desperatly that I can't have one.....yet. Simply... what a nice car lol I just had to grumble n' vent. I'd miss quite a lot about the Z (even the gold calipers lol) but I'd swap it in a heartbeat for an 'R'. Time to settle down get stuff sorted and think about its replacement in the not too distant future hopefully lol

This will be the next car getting added to the toy collection, hopefully next year. I've hankered after a XKR for years and there are some really good well looked after cars on the market just now. Unfortunately for me I promised my wife her new car this year so the XKR will have to wait, but as soon as finances allow next year I will be getting one. 400bhp straight from the crate and timeless styling. .....For the money they are selling for now...even low mileage ones, it would be rude not to add one to the stable.

It is a fantastic GT car indeed. I have noticed while looking though a lot of the 4.2's are racking up the miles so it may actually be a 5.0 one that I may 'need' to get in the hopefully not too distant future. Although for fuel economy I have been also interested in the 5.0 XK's. Very nearly the same pace as the 4.2 R's but without the ;horrendous fuel. They can sit fairly well at 24mpg. A touch better than the Z... lol Same economy...more power, thats a nice match. You know your in crap fuel economy when you consider a steady 24mpg ....acceptable.

There not bad, if you manage to get the piano black middle dash part, its ok even with the silver cheap looking side parts. As long as its got metal pedals (annoys me so much when they dont have them...such a snob). Are you referring to the old old ones? (I'm on about 2007 up). I'm off out in the Z now, as I walk past the neighbours 'R'... I can feel it laughing at me knowing I want one
