jackvyal
Hey everyone, I know there are plenty of tips to restore headlights. I've even gone so far as to buy the 3M Headlight restorer. But upon closer inspection, it seems as though my headlights are cloudy from the inside. I've attached some pics (I hope they're clear enough). Anyone had any experiences/fixes for this? Would the restoration kit solve the problem anyway? Thanks in advance. Jack
HEADPHONES
That honestly looks like the normal uv damage you get on most zed headlights. Even the pattern of cloudiness is the same as ive had on my sunset, with most of the damage at the top where the sum hits it more. I'm pretty sure polishing them will bring back the bling
jackvyal
Thats good to know Headphones! Thanks for the tip . What polish did you use?
gillywig2
Polishing will only be a short term fix. I have the same problem on my Skyline and have sourced another set set of lights with no uv damage.
HEADPHONES
Most abrasive polishes will work ranging from dedicated polishes for paint or plastics to Megs Metal Polysh and even toothpaste Polishing by hand is possible. Is alot faster with a machine if you can get your hands on one. Then you can seal with a coating such as Gtechniq C4. This may need a top up after 6months or so. But polishing is so easy I wouldn't get too hung up on what sealant to use. I mean.....we often re wax or re seal THE WHOLE CAR every month or so......so not a big deal doing diddy headlight every few months with something as easy as a spra sealant and the like. Ricey
If it looks like microcracking rather than hazing then you've had it I'm afraid. Sent from my SM-G925F using Tapatalk
jackvyal
Thanks for the advice everyone. I've just bought some Meguiars PlasticX and will buff them over the weekend. If that doesn't work, I'll get the 3M headlight restorer on it! Cheers
nixy
I've had mine done twice - once by a detailer and once by hand - same good results. I do think it will be an ongoing thing.
jackvyal
So I applied some of Meguiars PlasitcX on them, followed by some GTechniq C4. Couldn't be happier with the results. Thanks again HEADPHONES for the tip! Glad I didn't need to get the drill and sandpaper out! Edited July 28, 2016 by jackvyal
HEADPHONES
Looking crystal clear It's amazing how much better they make the whole car look. You'll be constantly looking at other peoples cloudy lenses now thinking "if only they polished them up their car would be so much better"

Spatt
Awesome work. How was the g4 to use? I thought g4 was for wheels tho? So confused about the gtechniq range
ilogikal1
C1, C4 and C5 are the same product with different target markets, but essentially can be used on any painted or plastic surfaces. The G range is for use on glass only, it won't bond to anything else.
