My exsperience Fitting decats and y pipe

Right I'll start with the y pipe. I fitted this about 1 month ago I replaced the original with a stillen as the flexi joints had gone. What looked to be a straight forward swap took 4 hours. Every single bolt snapped or rounded off resulting in me drilling out all the bolts in the original cat. So when my decats turned up this week my intentions were to get it into a garage and after looking on here everybody was saying take it to a garage. Well last night I got board start to finish 1.5 hours it took. Not bad at all. So after my exsperience the whole job would have been a piece of cake if I did both at the same time because it was the cat to y pipe bolts that were the real problem for me. Just putting this out there if anybody is thinking of doing there own.

Most of the time cat to Y hard ware require a bit of heat to help them on there way.

Easy if you have a ramp and oxy/acet to hand.

As above, much easier if you replace both at the same time.

When I did the exhaust on my 350gt I did exactly that, dropped the Y piece and both cats off all together. Made life a lot easier, the bolts between the two were seized solid.

Taking the cats off, is the work done from below or some up top too?

There's one nut either side that you need to access from the top, the other two you get at from below. You need a few socket extensions to reach the top ones though. :teeth:
