GranTurismoEra
Hi guys, long time, I have an issue with my car with noise coming from the front The mechanic checked it and we have changed the shocks, mounts and bushings are ok. The noise is apparent when going over a speed bump at an angle. If i go over straight on its not always there. Its got worse over the last few weeks. If one wheel on the left is depressed and one isnt it makes noise, or if the bump is high and the car drops of it it clunks. if the car overs with two wheels depressed it isnt always clunking. It used to be mainly on the left side. but now its on both sides. It sounds like cupboard drawers knocking. Almost like a wooden sound. mechanic reckons it is the Banana/Compression arm. some forums say links, But to test the car needs weight on it. It would be easy to test if there was a small hump just before the ramp. Im not sure if it can be heard from outside. Any ideas?
RS8055
It sounds so much like your end-links (bushes) are knackered... but if you checked them and they are okay, then I have absolutely no idea unfortunately!
GranTurismoEra
i will try and get a second opinion over the weekend, its a 2003 with 86k miles, cant see any advisories, reciepts, possibly never been changed, speaking of links do you mean the drop links/anti roll bar links? Cyder
Sounds like drop links, I had similar then had them replaced last week and the car is much better now. I was worried it could be banana arms too so was pleased it was only droplinks.

Cyder
I was charged 30mins labour, I feel they might have been generous though as I was having another job done at the same time.

ATTAK Z
and if the bushes look OK then it'll be the ball joint ... notoriously difficult to diagnose ... and that means £250 per side for replacement of the whole arm

gillywig2
Check the lower control arm as well. You can see the bush has failed allowing the damper mount to make contact with the arm, causing a knocking at low speed.
