GT Driver
Not the meouw type Fitted decats this morning and took the old oem cats out for inspection. I've had a rattle at idle for the past few months and now I've confirmed a piece of the catalytic converter material has become loose within the cat housing. Picture attached- the mesh material what you can see rattles up and down. It's been fine to pass the last 3 NCTs (MOTs) as is. Question is - is there anyway to get this broken piece re-seated? GMballistic
If you're only using it to pass the MOT and it's been like it for the past three that you've passed then why worry about it? Either follow veilside/Rich's suggestions of a new one (used one) or just leave as is imo.
GT Driver
Fair point GM. I don't see the decats as a very long term solution so I was just wondering if they could be repaired. But if it can't no point spending too much on a new cat. The rattle is rather annoying though:

Looks like you could maybe put a mig welder gun in there just enough to tack it in place with a couple of spot welds. Wouldn't hold forever I'd doubt but if you're only putting the Cats on & off when you're getting your MOT done then I can't see it not working (imo).
