Where to sell your Z

Pritchard

Recommended Posts

general question,

with Auto Trader being a bit pants compared to previous Hacon days. and also expensive to put up an advert, ebay has time wasters, and Piston Heads has joy riders. Owners club members dont need another Z, and dealers not wanting a modified car.... where would you sell yours?

hypothetically...

if it was an Astra it wouldnt be an issue.

Agree with Ekona PH for me but out of interest whilst mine has been parked up and jo public have asked me about the car two people have asked me to call them next summer when the car goes up for sale. Nothing may come of it but it maybe an option. I would put it on this forum in the first instance.

Mines been on pistonheads for over a month now and not even had a bloody call. It's the 3rd cheapest too and has history etc etc. Don't know what's putting people off

Gumtree is free, so always a bonus, as is the forums.

Gumtree used to be free but since ebay took it over its all changed. When I was selling my old car I would advertise it again every so often to bump to the top and you only get so many free adverts

When I sold my first one last year I thought my best chance was on the forum, barring Mattross serious enquiry all I got was people making low offers, after a month or two I put it on ebay expecting low ball offers (which I still got) but it sold for a grand more than I had advertised for on here. Ebay is definitely not without its headaches, but the target audience is massive.

+1 on eBay sold all my cars there, a well written advert informative pictures plus a link to a you tube walk around and a link to this forum with a build thread and always sold my cars within a week or two.

^^^ informative adds are the key on ebay imho, basically give no one a reason to ask questions, make sure every bit of info is there, then you can pretty much ignore any further daft questions and expect low baller offers, just dont reply.

As a perspective buyer I'd say it may be because the GT spec'd ones are more popular. Although yours is at such a good price for the mileage if it's the J88 one?

Don't underestimate gumtree as well, I bought a cracking car off there a few years back for the wife. Also sold my alloys off there last year to the first person that contacted me.

Yes its free, you get time wasters, but you just have to filter them like you would if you posted an ad anywhere else. Its a no brainer putting an ad up on there.

Mine is GT Spec Steph.... it's a common misconception that GT cars had Rays wheels... Rays were an option on top of GT trim :)

ive bought and sold cars on and off for the last 3 years, and never put a single advert on Pistonheads.

90% of my purchases/sales are through ebay

the other 8% is autotrader

and 2% gumtree.

always go ebay first, if not luck after a week ill drop the price a little or stick it on autotrader.

ebay is full of timewasters, but you learn very quickly who is genuine or not, never accept a deal on ebay as it just wastes time if they dont show up - or get a deposit before accepting.

best thing to do is to find your exact car (make/model/miles (to the nearest 5k)/condition/colour/wheels/extras) and price yours £100 lower. - your car is then the cheapest on the market of that spec. and in theory should sell quickly if people know what theyre looking at. - plus, when someone asks for money off, tell them thats youve done your research and if they can find the same car cheaper, youll beat it. - and they wont. - just put in a full tank of fuel to sweeten them up.

take decent pictures. The amount of cars i buy purely based on how awful the pictures are is insane. i specifically target cars with bad photos as i know the car will sell for up to £500 less that what it should.

the majority of people only buy cars for cash with a value of £5k or less. above that and you're into finance for most people.

So plan to sell your car, and be prepared to sit on it a while for the right price. - if you want a quick cash sale, be prepared to drop £500-1000.

But if its advertised for more than 10 days. go and take some different pictures. people who are looking for a 350z/370z may have scanned past it a few times. being new pictures may appear to be a new car and grab their attention.

These are tips ive used to sell cars before and 9 times out of 10 it works - yes you lose on some cars, but thats life.

Sold my last two cars via Autotrader and bought my last car via PistonHeads. Nobody gets a test drive without proof of fully comp insurance and balance in full at hand, which usually means you taking them out for a drive and directing them to a dealer if they want to try themselves.

eBay is just full of complete time wasters wanting cars for nothing.

For a heavily modified car, I'd lean towards PistonHeads personally.
